Researcher V

This position requires an active USAccess clearance.

The Researcher V will conduct research and technical duties in a laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis. Fieldwork and equipment maintenance are also key responsibilities.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Researcher V: Pay commensurate with experience.

Researcher V Responsibilities Include:
• Independently conduct research and technical duties in a laboratory environment. Specific skills required include ability to extract, purify, and quantify DNA and RNA, ability to conduct polymerase chain reaction and quantitative polymerase chain reaction, gel electrophoresis, design primers and troubleshoot molecular biology protocols. Specific skills preferred but not required include work using primary and immortalized cell lines, managing reptilian cell cultures, and performing CRISPR-Cas experiments in cultured eukaryotic cells.
• Train students and volunteers in laboratory procedures to proficiency as tasked without directly overseeing or managing other personnel.
• Skill in operation and maintenance with specialized laboratory and Biosafety Level 2 laboratory equipment is required including, but not limited to, mechanical pipettors, thermocyclers, spectrophotometers, DNA sequence analyzers, centrifuges, and power supplies.
• This person will also be required to prepare, collect, evaluate and verify samples and supporting records; maintain records and locate and compiles data and other information from various sources; keeps detailed records of experimental data; tabulate, statistically analyze and summarize data using computers and software packages; maintain inventory of chemicals, and prepare solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory.
• Assist PI in preparation of presentations of research materials. The researcher will assist the PI by providing technical support in preparation of outreach materials (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, posters, hand-outs).
• Maintain laboratory equipment, including alerting PI when supplies need ordering or replacing and doing research to determine the appropriate supplies for the task.
Field Tasks
• Assist with acquiring biological samples and environmental data in the field. Field work will include multi-day field trips out of town
• Prepare for field excursions by packing truck, signing out trucks, checking readiness of field equipment, making datasheets, calibrating instruments, etc.
Office tasks
• Will be responsible for day-to-day continuance of identified projects, at the discretion of the CNT Site Lead & client PI, and may serve a role in coordinating/training for volunteer/student activities in the lab.
• Perform literature reviews and synthesize information to be used by the PI in research

Researcher V Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • Completion of at least 24 hours in scientific or technical courses directly related to the position is required.
  • Individual shall have the ability to work with little or no supervision and within established guidelines and operational procedures.
