Job Description - DIRECTOR MATERIALS MANAGEMENT (3302056)GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW:Under the general direction of the BWH Vice President of Facilities and Operations and within the established hospital and department policies and procedures, the Director of Materials Management has full managerial responsibility for Laundry & Linen (L&L), Office Services, Audio Visual, Receiving & Distribution, Supply Support, Patient TV service, Retail operations, and supports hospital-wide sustainability initiatives. This position manages a broad range of activities associated with the development, implementation, and maintenance of daily operations, service levels, and tasks within the area of control. This position requires collaboration with Materials Management Services at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.This position develops, communicates, and enforces departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Works to develop the strategic vision and refines programs to enhance operations. This position will work closely with PHS, MGH, and BWHC management to deliver quality services through the Supply Chain continuum. It is critical to work together to integrate, in a seamless process, all parts of the materials acquisition, delivery, and use of product services. This position, because of its shared roles, will be able to optimize a coordinated approach to supply chain management between BWHC and PHS. Teamwork with the Finance, Patient Care Services, Information Systems, and Research is key to the success of this position. Directly oversees annual operating budgets and directs a staff of over 100 employees.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepares and maintains the Capital and Operating Budgets for areas of responsibility. Assures compliance with budgets and targets in all areas.Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures (P&P) for areas of responsibility at BWHC. Assures all staff are appropriately given timely performance appraisals and if necessary, discipline in compliance with hospital P&P. Creates and recommends for implementation and enforcement of all MM P&P. Enforces hospital-wide P&P.Hires, fires, evaluates, and rewards personnel within areas of responsibility. Accountable for leadership, training, and professional mentoring of personnel.Responsible for effective training programs to meet TJC, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies requirements.Assures high quality of work is achieved from staff. Recommends appropriate changes within areas of responsibility to maintain and improve operational effectiveness.Collaborates with Partners Healthcare Materials Management organization to meet the purchasing and contracting needs of BWH and BWFH, and serves, as needed, on PHS committees and task forces to provide timely, accurate, and cost-effective Materials Management services.Provides collaboration to the Materials Management program at Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital. This includes leadership for onsite Materials Manager and staff, integrity of supply chain process, customer service, and patient affordability. Represents BWFH needs and interests at PHS.Supports and implements new programs occurring hospital-wide such as patient affordability, projects, and major departmental moves. Adapts well to an ever-changing environment.Cooperatively works with peers and entity MM departments to provide an effective overall environment for staff, visitors, and patients. Support goals and objectives of individual institutions.Coordinates with other key departments like Finance, Nursing, Research, and Information Systems to maintain and improve the integrity of the supply process.Performs all other duties as requested.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge as typically acquired through an undergraduate degree and a minimum of 12+ years progressive experience in a healthcare setting. Minimum of 5 years experience at a management level is required. BA/BS required with MBA preferred.SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Functions independently within a broad scope of established hospital and departmental policies and goals.Incumbent must demonstrate above-average skills in communication and problem-solving. Has contact with all levels of personnel within the organization as well as numerous contacts outside.Excellent computer skills are essential as well as the ability to read and interpret computer reports. Skills in preparing business plans and presentations are also needed.Requires analytical skills necessary to make sound judgments based on data analysis.A strong commitment to provide superior service which assures quality and user satisfaction.In-depth knowledge of Materials Management information systems, Supply Chain Management, purchasing, and daily operations of P&L and Office Services is a must.WORKING CONDITIONS:Able to work in a fast-paced environment.Able to work under stressful situations.Must have a valid driver’s license to commute between institutions.BWH is an Affirmative Action Employer.
