Scope of PositionThe Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC-James) is committed to enhancing the quality of care provided to patients and their family members. The Director of Nursing leads a team that includes Nurse Managers and Assistant Nurse Managers while collaborating with clinical specialists, educators, and consultants. With oversight of multiple units across hospitals, the Director of Nursing establishes an environment that supports the professional practice of nursing as essential and integral to patient care. In addition, the Director of Nursing assumes responsibility for determining the vision and direction for the respective area/department(s) with a span of oversight of 300-500 FTEs, determining the strategic and operational plans to support the vision of the department(s) and The James, operationalizing the plans, and evaluating and or revising the plan as needed.Position SummaryThe Director of Nursing is a role model for transformational leadership and is responsible for managing the operations, evaluating manager and employee performance, demonstrating customer satisfaction (internal and external), and strategic and operational planning and program development. The director serves as a leader and mentor both within the department and throughout The OSUCCC-James.The Director is responsible for:Integrating the department's services with The OSUCCC-James primary functions;Coordinating and integrating services within the department and with other departments;Developing and implementing policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of the department's services;Recommending a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide the department's services;Continuously assessing and improving the department's performance;Maintaining appropriate quality control programs;Providing for orientation, professional development, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in the department;Recommending sufficient space and other resources required by the department;Participating in the selection of outside services when necessary;Ensuring compliance with appropriate patient care and business practices.Minimum QualificationsBachelor of Science degree in Nursing required. Master's degree in health care related field required, Master's degree in Nursing preferred. Current Ohio License required. Seven to ten years progressive Administrative/Management experience is required. Previous administrative experience in relevant care setting preferred. Professional certification in Nursing Administration or clinical practice is desired with an expectation of attainment within one year of hire.
