Performs routine and complex laboratory testing using manual and automated methods and procedures useful in patient diagnosis and treatment.Responsibilities

Performs specialized assays or procedures.Ensures that attending physician or appropriate individuals obtain patient lab results.Evaluates, troubleshoots problems, and makes decisions related to specimen preparation and procedures for preparation.Prepares, labels, and performs quality control inspections on laboratory reagents.Maintains lab work records.Participates in work-related conferences and education.May participate in and be responsible for decisions involving quality control programs, instrument selection and maintenance, and reagent purchases.Participates in the introduction of new procedures and in the evaluation of new instruments.This job description is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of employees assigned to the job.Work Environment and Level of Frequency

Bachelor’s Degree in a biological science; American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) certification as a Medical Technologist or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are required. ASCP certification equivalency for this position may be one year of lab experience.Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work.
