Emergence is hiring a SUD counselor to support a caseload of justice-involved men in our treatment court program. For the past 30 years, treatment court has been the most effective evidence-based approach to reduce the negative effects of mass incarceration. Emergence has provided SUD treatment to participants in treatment court since 1994. We are looking for a committed, mission-driven counselor to support treatment court participants find long-term recovery and transform their lives.
Emergence is willing to train the right person for this role , and people with lived experience of substance use disorder and involvement with the criminal justice system are encouraged to apply. Substance Use Disorder Counselor Responsibilities:Managing all aspects of a case from date of entry to date of discharge.Evaluating patients' physical and mental behaviors.Developing appropriate treatment and recovery plans.Facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.Monitoring patients over time to assess treatment progress.Collaborating with psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and departments of correction.Identifying behaviors that interfere with treatment and recovery.Assisting primary caregivers to manage addiction-related behavior.
Substance Use Disorder Counselor Requirements:Associate degree in addictions counseling, or a Bachelor's degree with coursework in addiction preferred,
but not required
.Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or similar credential preferred,
but not required
.Ability to be certified in the specific competency within 2 years of hire.Previous experience with the treatment of substance use disorders preferred.Minimum of two years' experience in clinical documentation.Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems like Carelogic would be advantageous.Experience with co-occurring disorders.Application of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services' (SAMHSA) best practice indicators.Knowledge of drug testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.
