NYC Health+ Hospitals/Elmhurst Department of Risk ManagementDirector of Risk Management 2024We are seeking a full time, hospital-based Director for our Risk Management department to assist in the coordination of Risk Management and Risk Reduction Activities under the direct supervision of the Associate Executive Director (AED) of Risk Management. Duties and Responsibilities include:Assist and advise Risk Managers in the investigation, medical record review, occurrence report review and preparation of case chronologies/RCAs of both NYPORTS reportable incidents and non-reportable incidents;Provide hospital staff education and present programs that address Risk Management issues;Follow up on recommendations, corrective action plans and measures of success resulting from RCAs and occurrence report reviews;Liaison with health care professionals and the NYC H+H Office of Legal Affairs on patient care issues, and provide consultations as needed to hospital staff;Oversee the investigation and presentation of patient allegations of abuse and neglect;Review matters in litigation, including review of Notices of Claim and pleadings, and assist on discovery issues and subpoena requests;Coordinate with NYC H+H Claims and Litigation on pending matters, including attendance at claims management meetings;Attend and report out to hospital committees on Risk Management matters;Oversee the Risk Department in the absence of the Risk AED;Provide on-call coverage for off-hours Risk questions.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEExcellent communication and writing skills;Medical/legal background;Ability to review and succinctly summarize medical records;Ability to conduct neutral interviews of healthcare providers;Background in risk management, quality management, utilization review, care management, social work, malpractice litigation;Medical research skills;Minimum of 8 years administrative and managerial experience.EDUCATION & LICENSES:JD, licensed in NYS, with healthcare experience, or medical malpractice litigation experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree in General Health Sciences or Nursing, with a Graduate Degree in Health Sciences.Email resumes to Louise Derevlany:
