Research Geophysicist – Reservoir Characterization

General Description:Sinopec Tech Houston has an immediate opening for Research Geophysics Advisor with expertise in reservoir-oriented full waveform inversion technology. This position will be responsible for developing cutting-edge full waveform inversion technology and software for reservoir characterization and geoscience applications, supporting Sinopec subsidiaries’ upstream projects.

Essential Functions:Develop an Innovative Acoustic/Elastic Wavefield Simulation Algorithm using integral numerical methods or other approaches.Design and develop a Target-Oriented Full Waveform Inversion Algorithm along with an implementation strategy.Lead nonlinear wavefield construction multi-parameter inversion development.Advise and lead the development of supportive modules associated with target-oriented full waveform inversion.Lead and Advise the Development of Prestack Data Redatuming and target-oriented wavefield construction.Collaborate with software developers to design, develop, and maintain source code, and assist in its validation and integration into the internal software platform.Actively contribute to ensure and maintain source code quality.Create and maintain software documentation.Mentor and share expertise throughout the team.Preparing consolidated technical reports for management and other parties as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong and proven programming skills are required in 2 or more of the following languages: C++/C, Python, Fortran etc. Knowing CUDA is considered a good additional positive.Demonstrates strong numerical analysis and problem-solving skills.Has hands-on experience in Full Waveform Inversion Algorithm development.Expert knowledge in Seismic Propagation, Numerical Simulation, Seismic Inversion, and related research topics.Familiar with Linux and high-performance computing systems.Provides support and training to Reservoir Delineation and Seismic Inversion users.Self-starter and self-discipline with multi-tasking abilities to meet deadlines.Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to present technical topics to peers and management.Must be able to read and write English fluently.Effective communication and teamwork.Strong project management skills.

Minimum Required Education, Credentials, Licenses and Experience:

Must have a Master’s degree or Doctoral Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Geophysics, Computer science or related Geophysical subjects from an accredited school.Must have 7+ years of industry related experience.Some domestic and international travel may be required.Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
