The American Immigration Council works to strengthen America by shaping how America thinks about and acts towards immigrants and immigration and by working toward a more fair and just immigration system that opens its doors to those in need of protection and unleashes the energy and skills that immigrants bring. The Council brings together individuals adept at solving problems and employs four coordinated approaches to advance change-litigation, research, legislative and administrative advocacy, and communications.

Position Summary

The Business Development Manager is at the forefront of forging new opportunities and driving growth for the organization. Reporting to the Exchange Program Director, the Manager will be a thought partner in developing and executing a comprehensive business development strategy to cultivate new revenue streams and partnership opportunities.

This position is a dynamic mix of strategic analysis, marketing acumen, and sales expertise, all aimed at expanding the organization's market presence and revenue streams. The Business Development Manager will collaborate with other programmatic teams to ensure that business expansion efforts are integrated with the Council's broader objectives, driving sustainable growth through cross-functional synergy.

As with all positions at the Council, this position requires commitment to the Council's mission and the organization's culture of philanthropy.

Essential Job Functions

Researches and identifies new business opportunities, including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products, and servicesDevelops and implements a comprehensive business development plan to significantly grow and scale client base (business immigration attorneys, U.S. host organizations, exchange visitors) with annual and longer-term goals and objectives, strategies and key activities, performance indicators, and timelines to support the organization's mission and prioritiesDevelops a robust marketing and outreach strategy that enhances the Council's reputation as a premier J-1 visa program sponsorWorks cross-functionally with the Development, Communications, and Brand teams to cultivate and steward the Council's new business pipeline consistent with the priorities established in the organizational strategic plan and team goals.Advises and collaborates with the leadership and staff on strategies, trends, obstacles, and opportunities in revenue generation aligned with our business development strategyCreates activities and events to cultivate and maintain relationships with committed clients/partners that support the Council's principles.Manages frequent, values-driven, and customized communications to support partner prospecting, cultivation, and stewardship.Attends conferences, meetings, and industry events to network and promote the companyUtilizes CRM software to track progress with new prospects, manage business leads, and analyze data to inform business strategiesOther duties as assigned.Requirements

Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business administration, sales management, communication, or related discipline, or equivalent in work experience.Five plus (5+) years of experience in successfully closing six- and seven-figure grants, contributions and/or partnerships from institutional sourcesAbility to develop and manage a strategic plan with multiple projects and deadlinesAble to lead in a team-oriented environmentExcellent staff and project management and ability to prioritizeExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communicationProficiency using CRMsProficiency with MS Office and Word, Excel, and Outlook functionsKnowledge of J-1 visa exchange programs (not require, but a plus)Knowledge of strategic planning and how to translate organizational goals and priorities into actionable division/department plans.Knowledge of operations and best practices to support business developmentProven record of accomplishment in cultivating, securing, and stewarding partnerships of six- and seven- figures.Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment.Ability to analyze and synthesize complex issues and present information to a general audience.Ability to foster positive working relationships with a diversity of internal and external stakeholders and collaboratorsAbility to maintain confidentiality.Entrepreneurial with ability to work collaboratively as well as independentlyAbility to collaborate with external partners in a manner that demonstrates expert knowledge of the organization.Ability to foster positive internal and external relationships that build trust, confidence, and investment.Ability to utilize diplomacy, innovation, and creativity when resolving non-routine matters that impact achievement of the Council's goals and objectives.Ability to travel 25% of time, some travel may be internationally.Your Colleagues

We are a fully remote workplace. We offer an extremely generous total compensation package (salary and benefits). The Council offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including a 401(k) with organization match; health, dental, and vision plans; life insurance; short- and long-term disability; paid time off to include company, personal, and individual holidays, vacation, sick, and parental leave.

This is a remote position. While remote, this job operates in a professional office environment and will require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and technology such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The Council will provide a laptop and other equipment needed to perform the job. Staff must supply their own office space and furniture.

The annual base salary range for this position is between $85,000 - $90,000.
