About the Role:

The Human Resource Compliance Consultant serves as a vital resource for our clients, providing consultation in both Human Resources (HR) and Employee Benefits Compliance. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of California Labor Law and a thorough understanding of State and Federal employee benefits mandates. The ideal candidate excels in consulting and demonstrates strong presentation skills, offering expert guidance, ongoing education, and actively supports sales and client retention efforts. Additionally, the consultant engages in professional organizations, enhancing their role as a trusted industry resource.

  • $99,000-$129,000 Annual Salary

What you will do:
  • Provide expert counsel to clients on Leave of Absence, Wage and Hour, and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)
  • Proactively watch and interpret ERISA, ACA (Affordable Care Act), and Employment legislative changes, ensuring clients are promptly informed and understand the impact on their business
  • Manage and triage client HR inquiries, accurately assessing needs and coordinating with internal specialists to offer tailored guidance
  • Collaborate with Compliance & HR vendors and consulting partners, ensuring clients have access to the most relevant information
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on employee benefits compliance, including reporting, audits, and adherence to key regulations (e.g., ERISA, 401(k), HSA, Cafeteria Plans)
  • Conduct comprehensive compliance assessments, including ERISA Control Group Testing, ACA Affordability, ALE (Applicable Large Employer) Status Testing, Safe Harbor Assessment, and Discrimination Testing
  • Support clients with regulatory filings (e.g., 1094, 1095, PCORI, 5500) and ensures health plan documentation and disclosures (SPD/WRAP) are current and correct
  • Assess and evaluate ACA IRS Penalties, advising on resolutions and risk mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with our internal Learning & Development Program Manager to create and deliver internal and external compliance & HR content, including educational presentations, webinars, how-to videos, newsletters, and a self-help resource library

Your Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, JD) OR certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, CEBS) are highly desirable.
  • 5-7 years of experience in HR compliance, employee benefits administration, or related fields
  • Experience working in a consulting capacity, either within a firm or as an independent consultant, advising clients on compliance matters
