Under close supervision, performs routine professional environmental planning and resource management work.Essential Job Duties
Researches, studies, and develops reports of a routine nature on environmental quality and natural resources issues using statistics, charts, tables, graphs and maps to make recommendations and present conclusions.Assists other professionals in the research, study, and development of complex environmental and natural resource planning projects and studies.Reviews and approves land development plans and permits of modest complexity for compliance with County laws and regulations, regarding the protection of natural resources, including watercourses, wetlands, water pollution, aquatic habitats, rare and endangered species, agriculture, forests, and wildlife habitats.Reviews and comments upon state and federal permits.Conducts field surveys and mapping of watercourses, wetlands, forests, and wildlife habitats.Examples of Other Duties
Serves as the department's representative on intra-county, community, or other committees. Assists other professionals in technical studies, research and preparation of reports. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in environmental, regional, urban or city planning, or in a natural resource, environmental or a biological science.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)
Basic knowledge of environmental health and natural resource sciencesBasic knowledge of the concepts and objectives of natural resource management and principles of environmental healthAbility to perform routine environmental research and conduct field investigationsAbility to understand and interpret laws and regulationsAbility to review plans and permits for compliance with environmental laws and regulationsAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance)
Basic knowledge of ecological concepts, engineering principles, and wetland delineationKnowledge of Federal, State, and County environmental laws, regulations and policiesSkill in problem-solvingSkill in reading and interpreting plans, maps, or other technical informationSkill in environmental impact assessmentNegotiation skillsLicenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid non-commercial class C Maryland Driver's license or an equivalent is required at the time of appointment.Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of these positions requires some physical activity such as walking, bending, stooping and carrying of moderately heavy objects. Field investigations may involve exposure to inclement weather. Employees in this classification may be assigned to work nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation
