Educational Support Specialist Job Description and OverviewMarin Waldorf School seeks an experienced Educational Support Specialist (ESS) for the 2024/25 school year. This is a full time position.We are looking for a talented and organized individual who can work effectively in an administrative and instructional capacity to address the learning support needs of our students. The ESS will work predominantly with students who have mild-moderate learning needs and/or are English language learners.The ESS will work closely with learning support teachers and classroom teachers to successfully assess, coordinate, document, plan, instruct and track student learning.The ESS will demonstrate initiative toward taking a pivotal role in developing collaborative relationships with administrators, teachers and parents to coordinate, document, implement and follow up on IEPs, 504 and other learning support plans. The ESS will ensure plan goals and strategies are clearly articulated.QualificationsThe ideal candidate will have a degree in Special Education (masters degree preferred,)Preferred Skills and ExperienceExperience with Waldorf educational supportExperience with special education processes such as: IEPs, 504 plans and contemporary learning support best practices.Waldorf trainingStrong organizational and administrative skillsAn ability to work supportively and enthusiastically within the Waldorf teaching model.Collaborative, strategic, receptive, flexiblePositive communication skills with parents and colleagues.Experience working with co-teaching modelsExperience as a classroom teacherExperience or training in working with English Language learnersAbility to work in a multicultural environment, cultural competency.Experience in developing curriculumExperience with parent educationAbility to analyze and interpret educational psychological assessments and academic assessmentsExperience and expertise with structured literacy approaches.Knowledge of screening tools for admissions and assessments relevant to special educationKnowledge of learning disabilities, emotional, behavioral, and neuro diverse learning stylesExperience and success providing and coordinating academic support as it relates to the aboveExperience with a range of developmentally appropriate assessments and intervention programs pertaining to Special EducationCoordinating/documenting student support plans, records and screeningA solid understanding of UbD, differentiation and inquiryGeneral ResponsibilitiesEstablish links with the parent community to ensure that parents are kept well informed about student progressMaintain up-to-date records of assessment, attendance, planning, reports, conferences, and communication with parentsTraining, review, support and guidance of 1st - 4th grade teachers with their structured literacy classes using the UFLI manual.Conduct in-house assessments as needed.Observes students in class as part of assessment and tracking general progressConduct and/or supervise PO/PI structured literacy and reading support 1st - 4th and literacy learning support classes 5th - 8thCoordinate and document annual 1st grade readiness assessment.Coordinate annual 2nd grade assessment.Design, implementation and track 2nd grade assessment recommendations, including movement recommendationsConduct screenings/skills check 2-3 times per year for grades 1,3,4,5Chair Student Support Team (SST) committee meetingTrack administrative records pertaining to SST work including: SST plans and their updates, formal and informal student accommodations, meeting notes, parent, teacher and other communication relating to SST.Coordinate math supportCoordinate support for social-emotional needs of studentsAttend and constructively contribute to staff meetingsMember of Child Study committeeAdministrators and instructors at MWS are welcomed into a collegial and collaborative working environment. .Compensation $66,560 - $93,000 * Medical, Dental, Vision, Tuition RemissionMarin Waldorf School values and supports teachers. We offer a generous and competitive salary with increments for teaching experience.
