Stanford Medicine is comprised of Stanford University School of Medicine, a premier research-intensive medical school, Stanford Health Care (SHC), a hospital that is nationally recognized for quality patient care and leading-edge technology, and Stanford Children's Health, the only health care system in the San Francisco Bay Area exclusively dedicated to pediatric and obstetric care. Medical Center Development (MCD) seeks experienced gift officer to direct the fundraising program supporting faculty and research in Stanford Medicine's basic science departments, including core initiatives that will accelerate biomedical discovery.

JOB PURPOSE:
The position will directly manage a portfolio of approximately 50 to 75 major gift prospects capable of making a gift between $250,000 - $10,000,000. This role will focus on building the donor base and philanthropic revenue for key Biomedical Discovery priorities, including support for PhD fellowships, a seed grant program for innovative research, and department and faculty-based basic science research initiatives, programs, and Institutes.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop philanthropic goals, objectives, and strategies to generate philanthropic support for priority initiatives and programs.
  • Monitor annual strategic programming goals and fundraising success, implementing appropriate interventions when necessary.
  • Manage various fundraising activities, including maintaining active contacts, identifying new prospective donors and volunteers, cultivating relationships, soliciting gifts, and providing stewardship.
  • Staff 50 to 75 philanthropic relationships with consistent focus and high-touch engagement.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact in development for academic leaders and faculty in basic science departments.
  • In consultation with faculty, MCD, and School of Medicine leaders, identify the highest priority core initiatives and research programs in the basic sciences.
  • Develop and manage relationships of mutual respect and trust with faculty members, students, clinical and academic staff, and colleagues.
  • Interact regularly with faculty, students, and staff to gain in-depth specialized knowledge about programs and funding needs.
  • Direct and coach the efforts of the Associate Director of Development for Biomedical Discovery.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on the Major Gifts Team and other teams within Medical Center Development to implement fundraising activities.

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others; be at ease with colleagues at all levels.
  • Proven ability to achieve fundraising goals and a high level of comfort and effectiveness working with faculty and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Excellent writing, communication and listening skills.
  • Proven skills in managing several competing priorities and complex issues creatively and effectively.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone.
  • Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

WORK STANDARDS:

  • When conducting university business, must comply with the California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients.

The expected pay range for this position is $144,000 to $185,000 per annum.
