Contractor physician shall deliver quality care in order to attain positive health outcomes for all our valued patients with emphasis on cultural sensitivity and human dignity

Responsibilities

  • The number of patients to be seen shall be no less than an estimated 10 per eight (8) hour work day.
  • Provide other diagnostic and evaluative technique including x-ray and ultrasound visualization of the fetus for obstetrical and gynecological patients.
  • Examine patients, make diagnosis, develop treatment plans and prescribe treatment of conditions, diseases, and injuries of female reproductive system both by conservative and surgical means. Carry out treatment plans including surgical procedures on site in accordance with physician’s credentials and privileges.
  • Perform back-up call activities as scheduled.
  • Take patient histories, perform appropriate physical examinations, and order appropriate diagnostic studies available on-site.
  • For patients needing admission, dictate or write an inpatient history and physical, write initial orders.
  • Review and co-sign mid-level provider’s charts referred for consultation as needed.
  • Provide consultation to mid-level providers either verbally or by direct patient re-evaluation as needed.
  • Provide medical advice by phone on limited basis for patients who call in. Chart shall be made available prior to call-back.
  • Generate legible documentation in the patient record concerning medical information gathered and orders for treatment and referral in Subjective/Objective/Assessment/Plan (SOAP) format (nurses and clerks shall be responsible for carrying out these written orders).
  • Perform appropriate paperwork such as patient referrals, work release slips, insurance forms, etc., for legitimate requests for this following current medical evaluation or previous chart documentation by other physician.
  • Follow inpatient OB/GYN patients and do appropriate progress notes.
  • Provide consultation to the Emergency Room Health Care providers on an as needed basis.
  • The physician shall recommend and refer patients to other Indian Health Service providers and Contract Health Service (CHS) vendors within appropriate IHS guidelines.
  • The physician shall document services utilizing the appropriate electronic medical record system for patient encounters; complete all required administrative paperwork in a timely manner to include electronic consults, cosignatures, completion of chart or Risk Management Reviews, unusual occurrences and peer review, as required.
  • The physician shall be responsible for actions necessary for The Joint Commission (TJC) standard compliance and administrative policies, as directed.
  • Provide consultation to the Emergency Department health care providers on an as needed basis.
  • The Government will provide assistance, orientation and guidance in seeing patients as well as receiving supplies, utilizing and ordering laboratory, x-ray and pharmacy services.

Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States.
  • The physician(s) shall be Board Certified in or Board Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  • Physician(s) provided by the Contractor shall apply and be accepted as Associate member of the On Site Medical Staff.
  • Successful completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)-accredited residency in OB/GYN.
  • Shall provide a copy of documentation of physicians Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Shall speak, understand, read and write English fluently and communicate with sufficient clarity to be understood by IHS personnel and patients.
  • IMMUNIZATION RECORD to include proof of vaccination for:
    • MMR: (Persons born after December 31, 1956, if awarded a contract, shall provide proof of immunity to Rubella and Measles prior to award of contract. Serological testing to confirm immunity and/or immunizations will be provided to the Government. Special considerations may be allowed to individuals, who are allergic to component of a vaccine, has history of severe reaction of a vaccine or who are currently pregnant.)
    • Varicella or History of Chicken Pox (Must have documentation from a provider)
    • Tetanus Diphtheria Pertussis (Tdap)/Tetanus (Td)
    • Influenza Vaccines (current flu season)
    • Hepatitis B
    • COVID Vaccine -or obtain an approved medical or religious exemption
  • Shall have a current DEA license.
  • Shall provide a complete IHS Medical Staff Application to include documentation of work history since graduation from professional school to present day in chronological order. Any time period of gaps greater than 30 days since graduation from professional school, shall be explained writing along with contact information of an individual who can verify the gaps.
  • Shall provide a copy of documentation of current and past insurance carriers and contact information during the past 10 years.
  • Chenega will obtained and maintain coverage during contract period.
  • Shall provide documentation of and maintain current professional liability insurance coverage in the amount of $1 million per occurrence and $3 million aggregate per provider and tail coverage.
  • Physicians who spend 50 percent or more of their clinical time under contract with the Federal Government, and prescribe controlled substances shall obtain IHS Opioid Prescriber Training and provide Certification within six months of appointment and every 3 years after.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Shall possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity such that he/she can relate constructively to patients of the Native American communities.
  • Shall maintain standards of personal hygiene and grooming such that his/her image as a physician is compatible with the expectations of the on-site project officer.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
