The Substitute - Registered Nurse organizes, coordinates, and administers health services that enhance the health status and education of adult students and staff. Provides professional nursing services, including case management, to a diverse population of students including those with medical conditions and disabilities. Collaborates with other healthcare providers and agencies to coordinate healthcare. Definition: Under general supervisor, substitute employees perform a variety of work in support of a college or district program or office.  Non-academic, non-classified substitute: vacancy employees are appointed temporarily when recruiting to fill a permanent position. Non-academic, non-classified substitute: no vacancy employees replace classified employees who are temporarily absent from duty. Non-academic, non-classified substitute employees are not part of classified service. Non-academic, non-classified substitute employees are at-will employees, have no entitlement rights to any position in the District. Substitute employment shall not result in the displacement of Classified personnel. Substitute non classified employees who are appointed temporarily while the District is recruiting for the permanent position may not exceed 130 working days within a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Substitute non classified employees who are temporarily replacing a classified employee may not exceed 160 working days within a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). *Retired CalPERS Annuitants:  may not exceed 960 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30)*  REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:*  Identifies students with health problems that interfere with effective learning. Employs case finding, screening, interviewing, and observation techniques as well as analysis of health records to assess student health status. Refers students with particular needs to higher level health professionals and/or community resources.* Compiles health and demographic information from students, noting health history and population health trends including social, emotional, and environmental aspects.* Provides urgent nursing care for ill and injured students. Provides District Student Accident Insurance policy for appropriate students. Refers patients to local healthcare providers for more advanced treatment.* Provides initial mental health assessment, intake, crisis screening, and intervention. Collaborates with behavioral health providers to manage care, make referrals, and stabilize patients.* Provides registered nursing care services as mandated by law, as per current standing orders, and as prescribed by a Student Health Medical Provider.* Evaluates and documents the progress of individual care plans and therapeutic programs and makes modifications within scope of practice.* May coordinate and participate in implementing immunization programs. Administers immunizations according to medical protocols and safe and appropriate guidelines.* Conducts health assessments and physical examinations in accordance with community college health mandates. * Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.* Required to abide by all District policies and procedures including Board Policy 3050 - Code of Professional Ethics.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and Skills The knowledge required will vary depending on the nature of the assignment.  Abilities The abilities required will vary depending on the nature of the assignment.  Physical Abilities The physical abilities required will vary depending on the nature of the assignment.  Education and ExperienceRequires an Associate's degree in nursing plus two years of successful nursing experience in a public health, urgent care clinic, school, or hospital setting. Or, any combination ofeducation and experience which would provide the required equivalent qualifications for theposition. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in nursing; nursing experience in a community or college/university health setting. Licenses and CertificatesRequires a valid California driver license. Requires a valid California Registered Nurse License. Requires a valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certificate.Preferred: Public Health Nurse (PHN) Certificate.  Work Conditions Work is performed indoors and at time outdoors where some exposure exists to communicable diseases.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-academic, non-classified substitute: vacancy employees are appointed temporarily when recruiting to fill a permanent position.
