Qualifications:
- Degree/Education: Associates Degree of Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing: Education: Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Health care providers registered or certified by national/medical associations shall continue to meet the minimum standards for continuing education to remain current according to their state requirements.
- Life Support Certifications: Basic Life Support BLS, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS).
- Experience: Minimum of two years of Nursing experience with one year in theOperating Room. One year of Operating Room experience must have occurred within the last three years. Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certificate is preferred but not required.
- Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse. License cannot be under investigation nor have any adverse action pending from a state board or national licensing certification agency.
Typical Job Duties:
- Skilled in setting up the operating room for a variety of surgical cases. Must be organized, able to multitask, and think on their feet. Must understand surgical integrity and always follow Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) guidelines.
- Possession of basic knowledge of operating a wide variety of medical equipment/non-medical equipment in the operating room to ensure patient and staff safety, proper equipment maintenance and accessibility.
- Skilled at patient assessments, verifying correct legal paperwork is completed, and anticipating surgical needs for the patient.
- Possession of great verbal and written communication skills.
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures in the Electronic Health Care Record.
- Ensure a safe working environment, employee safe work habits, and patient safety IAW regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.
- Must be able to function independently with minimal oversight in a variety of surgical services, while under appropriate supervision.
- Participate in the orientation and training of newly assigned personnel, as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility.
- Provide care within ethical and legal boundaries.
- Ensure all physician's orders are executed as written.
- Communicate accurate and pertinent patient information to the responsible physician (in a timely manner).
- Implement nursing interventions to prevent complications, decreasing the need for hospitalization.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (as required).
