Transitional Housing Counselor

at Leland Place located in Northeast, Washington, DC.Position Description:

Provides counseling and supportive services to residents of Transitional Houses, assists clients in developing healthy coping skills, and oversees daily residential operations.Required:

HS Degree/GED; 3-5 years of experience in social services, experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment.Preferred:

Bachelor's Degree; 5+ years of experience in social services; experience providing services in addictions or mental health treatment, Driver's License.Schedule:

Monday-Friday 4:00 pm-12:00 am (40 hours a week)Required License/Certification:

CPR/First-Aid, AEDKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issuesConflict resolution skillsFlexibility with the ability to multi-task despite competing prioritiesOrganized with attention to detailRelationship-building skillsAbility to communicate with diverse audiencesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to stay calm in crisis situationsCreative problem-solving skillsAbility to set professional boundariesProficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and OutlookExpected Contributions:Case Management:Provide counseling and supportive services to the clientProvide care coordination in conjunction with Case Manager, collaborating with BHS counselorsMonitor that treatment plans are followedFacilitate weekly life skills groupCorrespond with agencies for client treatmentAssist with client transportation to appointments, as neededMonitor the medication being taken and document it appropriatelyWrite progress notes compliant with regulations within twenty-four hours of the sessionProgram Operations:Oversee daily operations in houseUpdate log book and provide house walk-throughsEnsure chores are completedPrepare dinners that were deliveredMaintain food inventoryMaintain a therapeutic environment within the houseParticipate in required training and development activitiesFully cooperate with the organization's compliance and continuous quality improvement (CQI) programCreate a safe work environment and use sound judgment in interactions with clients and staff to maintain safetyReport to work on time daily and use clock appropriatelyPerform other related duties as assignedReports to:
