The high level:The Community Engagement Associate (CEA) is part of an energetic team of leaders working together to leverage Reading Partners’ mission in the community. The Community Engagement Associate’s main role is to implement and support key volunteer and AmeriCorps recruitment strategies, including community engagement partnership development and overall community outreach. Reporting directly to the Community Engagement Director (CED), the Community Engagement Associate works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to contribute to the region’s success in reaching or exceeding volunteer recruitment goals, increasing Reading Partners Baltimore brand awareness, and sustainably expanding the volunteer community with diverse, dedicated tutors. The Community Engagement Associate leads and supports a variety of other regional initiatives, including communications and marketing, fundraising event operations, and more. The Community Engagement Associate is relationship-focused, is goal-oriented, and is excited by both higher-level and on-the-ground work.

What you’ll do:Implement and lead project management of all community-based volunteer recruitment strategies

Perform direct community outreach efforts that generate weekly volunteer tutors, increase brand awareness, and increase collaborative opportunities throughout the region.

Role model organization standards as a brand ambassador in the community, from facilitating engaging information sessions to representing Reading Partners at community events.

Maintain excellent volunteer and partnership records through the Salesforce database.

Manage a diverse portfolio of new and existing community partners and their associated volunteers to meet and support regional goals.

Lead ongoing cultivation and stewardship for partnerships, including implementing year-over-year sustainable retention growth plans.

Collaborate with internal team members to encourage deepened engagement from existing and new partners across organizational opportunities (including donations, events, promotion, etc.).

Support the recruitment, hiring and training of Reading Partners AmeriCorps members toward successfully reaching or exceeding volunteer recruitment, retention, and training goals.

Support volunteer and donor communications

Lead content strategy and execution for regional social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X)

Collaborate with internal team members and national marketing team to develop and implement compelling social media campaigns that drive engagement.

Support the creation of engaging newsletters and email communications to stakeholders

Support marketing efforts to engage stakeholders in our spring fundraising event

Use Canva and other platforms to create regional volunteer recruitment and engagement collateral materials to support team needs and requests.

Positively impact all aspects of the volunteer experience

Act as a strong advocate for Reading Partners Baltimore programming inside and outside of the organization

Remain up to date and ensure ongoing learning around best industry practices

Provide excellent service to Reading Partners volunteers during recruitment, onboarding, and engagement activities, ensuring 90% volunteer satisfaction rate.

Serve as a Reading Partners weekly tutor to understand the volunteer experience and support a student (or two)

Collaborate closely with all departments at Reading Partners Baltimore and with national team members to drive towards meeting regional student, volunteer, and development goals

Prepare for and participate in all staff engagement opportunities

Engage across departments through information sharing and collaboration

Work closely with the Community Engagement Director to ensure strong overall progress toward goals, team culture, and ongoing professional development opportunities

How you’ll do it:Relationship Development & Collaboration:

Leverage existing relationships and build new transformational relationships in the community and with partners. Establish highly collaborative cross-functional relationships, and work effectively with all internal stakeholders toward development, community engagement, and program goals. Celebrate wins with all stakeholders.

Communication:

Demonstrate the ability to genuinely promote Reading Partners and our mission through a variety of strategies. Serve as an external face for the literacy movement representing the organization at meetings and community events. Provide excellent customer service to partners and volunteers. Have a high level of comfort with public speaking, and an ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences.

Project Management:

Demonstrate a strong ability to prioritize, and create processes and systems to balance multiple competing priorities. Consider all stakeholders and implications in projects that are cross-functional. Be able to manage a portfolio of community partners and volunteers.

Innovative Thinking:

Demonstrate a high level of comfort with ambiguity and an ability to create order. Demonstrate an aptitude for framing problems as opportunities and remaining positive and goal-oriented in the face of competition for time and resources.

What we offer:Reading Partners’ compensation and benefits programs are designed to attract, motivate, engage, and retain top talent to propel our mission forward. We aim to set salaries based on objective, external, high-quality market data. Our salaries are adjusted for candidates in different geographic regions. We do our very best to ensure that we’re bringing our best offer - therefore we do not engage in salary negotiations.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position. The pay range for this position is $25.50 - $30.01 for Baltimore.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, flex spending accounts, generous paid time off, commuter benefits, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and currently a 403(b) match option.

Ten(10) vacation days with twelve (12) sick days.

In addition to paid holidays, we close our offices for one week in early July and between Christmas and New Year's Day. This totals another two(2) weeks of paid time off.

Professional development reimbursement funds up to $1,000 per year.

Travel: This position travels regularly throughout the greater Baltimore area.

Qualifications

About you!You’ll be successful in this role if you:

Have 2+ years of progressive experience in customer service, marketing, client management, volunteer management, community organizing, or similar field

Possess a natural ability and passion for connecting people to resources, and resources to people

Demonstrate knowledge of the Baltimore education landscape and/or the broader community

Have strong public speaking skills

Have database management experience and some level of comfort with Google Apps, Canva, ActOn, and/or Salesforce

Have experience working with diverse communities

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
