Responsibilities

Acute Rehab Unit (ARU) Speech Language Pathologists at GW HospitalThe Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) is a 16-bed CARF Accredited Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility located within GW Hospital and holds specialty accreditation in the areas of stroke and amputation. Our professional rehab staff work alongside other healthcare professionals to enhance patients' functional recovery, facilitate successful discharges, and elevate patient care through unit and system-based quality initiatives, evidence-based research and practice, and true interdisciplinary care. Leaders and staff are focused on exceptional patient outcomes and are defining healthcare for the 21st century.ARU SLPs at GW Hospital provide adult patients admitted to the ARU with the full range of diagnostic and treatment modalities in the SLP's scope of practice: Clinical Swallow Evaluation (CSE), Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS), Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), formal speech-language and cognitive assessments, speaking valve assessments, and post-op care for total laryngectomy patients.Job SummaryARU SLPs at GW Hospital are expected to collaborate closely with the entire interdisciplinary care team, especially Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians and advanced practice providers, Rehab nurses, OTs, PTs, and case management.
