Summary
The Chief Development Officer (CDO) for The Warren Center will serve as a critical member of the executive leadership team and will collaboratively articulate, implement and operationalize the strategic vision, mission and goals of the agency. The CDO will work directly with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in cultivating and soliciting major gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations and others. The CDO will lead a team of professionals responsible for fundraising, volunteer cultivation, corporate philanthropic support, communications, public relations, marketing and social media functions for the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily.
Strategic Leadership
Recruit, train, manage and mentor development staff
Continually review departmental infrastructure to ensure support of the organization's revenue growth goals
Effectively manage the development department's day-to-day operations, budget and income forecasts
Oversee special events staff in planning, while critically evaluating return on investments
Oversee communications to ensure consistent messaging and branding in all print and online donor communication vehicles
Provide marketing oversight to all donor materials, and strategic support on the full range of external stakeholder communications
Partner with the finance and accounting staff to sustain efficient, effective and transparent financial tracking and reporting processes
Develop clear processes and collaborate with all other departments within the organization to create an understanding of and appreciation for the development function
Foster an environment of cohesiveness and collaboration
Relationship Management and Solicitation
Work with the CEO to set and meet reasonable yet challenging annual fundraising goals for gifts from individuals, family and private foundations, corporations and local business
Work with the CEO and Chair of the Board Development Committee on strategies for donor acquisition and retention
Identify major gift prospects. Analyze and predict donor’s propensity, capacity and ability to give. Gather pertinent data to determine the best candidates for the gifts program
Cultivate major gift prospects, investing the necessary time and energy to build relationships designed to understand the donor/prospect goals with the expressed purpose of alignment with the organization's mission and fundraising objectives
Solicit major gift prospects, moving prospective major donors along the donor pipeline ready to receive appropriate asks based upon donor intent and interest
Produce donor-funding requests for annual giving and major gifts in support of overall general operating expenses as well as specific services and programs
Assist with writing of proposals and funding reports as well as donor-related information needed for The Warren Center’s publications and website
Work with others on the Advancement team to maintain accurate donor records and a robust donor pipeline of prospects and current donors
Oversee the comprehensive grant and proposal preparation process, from working closely with program staff to develop cases for support, to writing and/or coordinating the writing efforts among the development team for proposals and grants, to ensuring proper reporting of funded proposals to managing ongoing donor stewardship and relationships
Guide and work with the prospect researcher and fundraisers to identify and explore potential funding sources, which align with organizational priorities
Provide Board members with training, tools and support to effectively participate in fundraising
Facilitate and encourage substantial Board member participation in major gift and grant requests

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in social services, marketing, business, management, or other related area from an accredited 4-year university
5 years’ demonstrated successful fundraising experience in non-profit organization/s
2 years or more supervisory experience strongly preferred
CFRE preferred, but not required
