POSITIONSUMMARY:

Under general supervision, work with Facilities Management employees to maintain, repair, and assure the safe andefficient operation of electrical equipment, fire alarm systems, emergencygenerators, fire protection systems, and low voltage systems. Install, maintainand repair electrical systems and controls. Support third party life safetysystem testing and contractor work. Utilize the university's computerizedmaintenance management system. Perform seasonal inspections; remove snow andice from walks, steps, driveways, etc. and apply salt if necessary, in assignedareas. Drive all vehicles assigned to Motor Pool and Grounds Department.Perform other related duties as assigned.

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reads and interprets construction drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams,schematics, photos, blueprints and specifications to properly install or modifyelectrical wiring and equipment to comply with electrical codes andregulations.

Performs scheduled and unscheduled jobassignments to electrical systems.

Installs electrical conduit, wiremold, conduit trays and duct banks; pull electrical wire through installedconduit.

Splices and joins wire usingappropriate tools for low voltage; install all phases of grounding leads.Connects motors, fixtures, wiringdevices, controls, sound, appliance equipment and wiring systems to powercables; install controls for new equipment including electrical switches,circuit breakers and relays.

Tests electrical circuits and equipmentfor compatibility and safety using test instruments such as volt/ohmmeter,meg-ohm-meter, phase rotation meter, amp meter, recording meter, infra-redthermal meter, light meter, circuit tracer, or continuity tester.

Installs electric conductors andconduit as needed to complete task.

Performs work, as appropriate, inspecialized electrical equipment such as emergency generators, transformers,variable frequency drives, uninterruptible power supply and fire pumps withappropriate training.

Perform work, as appropriate, onvarious electronic equipment such as fire, smoke, fire extinguishing systems,automatic sprinkler control systems, and emergency alarms; public addresssystems and hot water tanks with appropriate training.

Perform preventative maintenance workon such equipment as power panels, lighting panels, motor starters, and otherelectrical equipment.

Troubleshoot and isolate defects inwiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment and systems.

Perform general maintenance duties asdirected to finish and complete all projects/tasks.Knowledge in the operation of CMMS(computerized maintenance management system).Ensures proper care in the use ofmaintenance equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement ofworkplace safety and environmental practices.

Perform scheduled and unscheduled jobassignments to electrical systems.

Completes other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

High schooldiploma or equivalent.

Five years of experiencein electrical maintenance.

Valid City ofPittsburgh registered electrician license.

Valid driver'slicense.

Alternately, thesuccessful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience andtraining, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required toperform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, thefollowing:

Electricalsystems and wiring principles.

Electricaltroubleshooting and repair principles.

Basic electronicsystems and wiring principles.

Constructiondrawings, sketches, blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.

Testingelectrical circuits and equipment for compatibility and safety.

The occupationalhazards and safety precautions of the trade.

Current trademethods, materials and equipment.

Local andnational electrical codes.

Operation,maintenance, and repair of designated area equipment.

ApplicableUniversity, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures related toposition.Building andfacilities maintenance, safety and awareness of security issues.

Willingness toadjust work schedule when necessary and as determined by the supervisor,including work shift changes; willingness to work overtime and holidays. Basiccomputer skills and willingness to learn; ability to work well with others; integrityand dependability; willingness and ability to follow instructions. Good physical condition to perform the dailywork assignments that are inherent in this job description. Further examples are: ability to lift andmanipulate objects weighing up to 70 pounds regularly and the ability toperform work from ladders, scaffolding and elevated surfaces.
