GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Operation of sonographic equipment, perform and communicate results of diagnostic examinations using sonography.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Greet patient and provides instructions on procedures.Schedule and coordinate patient exams.Exams include, but may not be limited to, cardiac echo procedures.Use cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.Use independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.Examine sonographic images for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability.Maintain ultrasound equipment and work area, and maintains adequate supplies.Provide care for the psychological and physical needs of patients and their families for ultrasound procedures.The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to the job position. Availability for evening and Saturday shifts and float between Port Orange and Deltona locations as needed.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma; graduation from a formal sonography program.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one or more years' experience and/or training in ECHO Sonography

CERTIFICATIONS:

Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential with an AE specialty or RDCS® Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer required. Current BLS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Proficiency in ultrasound echo procedures and protocols.Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology.Knowledge of safety hazards related to radiology and sonography.Ability to use computer and network systems for processing and submitting images for interpretation by radiologist.Emergency response: knowledge of AED function, crash cart location and oxygen tank usage. Ability to respond to untoward medical event with calm demeanor and proficiency.ABILITIES:

Ability to work in a cooperative nature within and outside department with staff, patients and families.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Ability to explain procedures clearly and simply to patients.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Requires full body motion. Must be able to lift/carry/move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires positioning of patients. Requires 20/20 correctable vision.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Medical office, exam and treatment rooms. Exposure to radiation, needles, and communicable diseases and other conditions common to radiology setting. Work location may vary between sites.
