Nature of Work
This is a full-time position responsible for processing, hauling and handling trash and recyclable materials. Laborer(s) will operate city vehicles and equipment utilized in the collection of solid-waste, recycling, and yard waste collection. Will be required to complete maintenance duties and clean-up in inclement weather. Laborers will work, Monday-Friday; weekend and holiday work as required.
A majority of the work is performed outdoors. However, some indoor operational duties are required. Work is reviewed through observation of results obtained. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of specialized equipment including making minor adjustments to equipment.Examples of Work
Operates dump truck and automated refuse equipmentOperates a ForkliftSorts, handles and processes recyclable material and/or trashMaintains Material Recovery Facility which includes sweeping and removing debris from main floor, grounds and equipmentReports malfunctioning equipment to immediate supervisorsMaintains City' recycling drop-off centerAssists with refuse and recycling collectionInsures minimal contamination of recyclables being processed for the marketPerforms minor janitorial duties inside Municipal Recycling FacilityControls litter in and around all City maintained alleysPerforms clean-up and maintenance of Loop/City LotsWill perform manual labor tasksWill be required to keep written recordsPerforms other assigned duties as requiredDelivers trash and recycling carts to residents upon requestOperates rear-loader for yard-waste and bulk item collectionDesirable Knowledge. Able to operate or learn to operate a forkliftAbility to independently perform and carry out routine sorting operations and maintenance workAbility to ride on rear loader styled trucksAbility to learn in a reasonable amount of time a variety of departmental duties and responsibilitiesAbility to quickly demonstrate broad based understanding of the solid waste industryMust be able to lift objects no greater than 75 poundsMust be able to read routeDemonstrates ability to follow directions, rules, regulations and all safetyMust maintain effective working relationship with supervisor, co-workers, and general publicMust have class A or B Commercial Drivers' License,Physical/VisualHearing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, climbing andAssist with lifting material or equipment up toAbility to work inside and outside in all weatherAbility to concentrate or focus mentally for extended periods of time while operating or drivingClarity of vision at 20 inches corrected orQualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent with one to three years of experience operating equipmentValid, current Commercial Driver's License
