Purpose Of Position

This position provides labor assistance to various crews in Parks Maintenance. Assistance is provided by picking up litter, cleaning equipment, using power equipment, push mowers, and using various other hand and power tools to accomplish tasks. Work schedule may vary to include mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings.

Essential Functions

Pick up litter and clean bathrooms.Use backpack blower.Drive riding mower and pick-up truck.Trim plants.Clean work areas after work is accomplished.Prepare ball fields.Mow ball fields and parks.Use a spin trimmer.Must be able to communicate with owners, employees, and management in person, by telephone or radio.Must have knowledge of departmental regulations pertaining to tasks.Must have knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of hand tools and power equipment.Must be able to mow and trim grass.Must be able to sharpen mower blades.Must be able to perform minor maintenance of hand tools and power equipment.Must be able to stand and walk 8-hours daily, lift, carry, push, and pull up to 80-lbs. Must be able to climb, stoop, bend and crouch up to 8-hours a day.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience : High School Diploma or GED preferred. At least one (1) year of experience in landscape maintenance is preferred. A valid Texas Class "C" driver's license with a good driving record is preferred.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
