Asst/Assoc/Professor of Clinical Medicine - Academic HospitalistHiring Department : UICOMP-Internal MedicineLocation : Peoria, IL USARequisition ID : 1022779Posting Close Date : 10/25/2024Academic Hospitalist - The Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) seeks applicants for academic hospitalists/internists to join a growing department known for innovative educational programs. The candidate will supervise the performance of patient care services on patients at a 642-bed, tertiary care, academic medical center and will fully participate in the teaching programs for undergraduate medical students and residents.

Position SummaryProviding care to patients and instruction to learners.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesPatient CareServe as full time hospitalist (attending physician of record or consultant) for twenty-three (23) weeks per year thereafter on the University Hospitalist and Teaching Service (UHATS)Perform or supervise the performance of patient care services and procedures on patientsCollaborate with other attending physicians and consultantsAssure orderly transfer of care to other physicians when assigned hours of service endReinforce hospitalist processes for patient careDocument daily involvement in patient care in the medical record and record charges appropriate to the level of service provided and documentedParticipate in performance improvement projects defined by the department chair

Resident/Student EducationSupervise residents in an Ambulatory office when needed and not on service (average two half-days per month)Perform internal medicine bedside teaching when assigned to UHATS to standards of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical EducationParticipate in Morning Report daily while on service and most days when off-serviceProvide at least one Grand Rounds yearlyProvide lectures to residents and medical studentsWork with the other core members of the faculty on curriculum development and process improvement with the goal of exceptional resident/student education

Administrative/ResearchAssume responsibility for the business and fiscal activities of the department through routine evaluation of coding and documentation, regular review of charges and charge capture, interaction with the University billing department, and other activities as appropriate to maintain the fiscal health and regulatory compliance of the departmentServe on appropriate educational committees at the College of MedicineServe on appropriate hospital committees to improve the quality of patient careFunction as a faculty person within the statutes of the University of Illinois and as a staff member within the by-laws of the university-affiliated hospital(s)Other duties as assigned and appropriate to advance the mission of the Department of Medicine.

Minimum QualificationsMust possess MD or DO or equivalent degreeMust be board certified or board eligible for certifying examination of the American Board of Internal Medicine or comparable certifying authorityMust be eligible for medical licensure in the State of IllinoisMust be eligible for medical staff appointment at university-affiliated hospital
