Mission or Goal of Unit:
TheDepartment of Anesthesiology is committed to delivering the best possibleanesthetic and critical care to our patients, to advancing research and qualityimprovement in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine and training the nextgeneration of anesthesiologists through our residency and fellowship programsalong with medical student teaching.
Chief Purpose of this position:
We are seeking candidates to provide care to patients at VCU Health asassigned by the Department Chair or Chair's delegate. This includespreanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anesthetic care, postoperative rounds,resuscitation and intensive care, therapeutic/diagnostic nerve blocks, and consultationin cases of chronic pain. Directs the activities of nurse anesthetists asassigned by Chair or Chair's delegate
Position Responsibilities:1) Teaching: Provides"bedside:" clinical teaching of residents, medical students, student nurseanesthetists and others. Participates in the didactic teaching programs of theDepartment at this institution and attends conferences, rounds, and staffmeetings as required by Chair.
2) Research:May pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interestsindependently but within the guidelines of the Institution and Department.Participate in clinical trials depending upon interest and area ofspecialization.
3) Service:May serve on various departmental, School of Medicine, University or VCU HealthSystem committees as requested by Chair or determined via individual interest.the Department stresses the importance of being a good citizen of theinstitution and fosters community service at all levels.
4) Clinical:Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed by DepartmentChair or delegate including main OR and ambulatory areas. May supervise anddirect Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) as appropriate. Directanesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medical center.Required Qualifications:MD or DO degree.ABA Board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care Certification.Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia.Eligible for employment in the United States.Good communication, clinical and teaching skills.Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
