Mission or Goal of Unit : TheDepartment of Anesthesiology is committed to delivering the best possibleanesthetic and critical care to our pediatric patients, to advancing research and qualityimprovement in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine and training the nextgeneration of anesthesiologists through our residency and fellowship programsalong with medical student teaching.
Chief Purpose of this position : Providecare to patients at VCU Health CHOR as assigned by the Department Chair or Chair'sdelegate. This includes preanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anestheticcare, postoperative rounds, resuscitation and intensive care,therapeutic/diagnostic nerve blocks, and consultation in cases of chronic pain.Directs the activities of nurse anesthetists as assigned by Chair or Chair'sdelegate.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching: Provides "bedside" clinical teaching of residents,medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others. Participates in thedidactic teaching programs of the Department at this institution and attendsconferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required by Chair.
Research: May pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarlyinterests independently but within the guidelines of the Institution andDepartment. Participate in clinical trials depending upon interest and area ofspecialization.
Service: May serve on various departmental, School of Medicine, University orVCU Health System committees as requested by Chair or determined via individualinterest. the Department stresses the importance of being a good citizen of theinstitution and fosters community service at all levels.
Clinical: Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients as directed byDepartment Chair or delegate including main OR and ambulatory areas. Maysupervise and direct Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) asappropriate. Direct anesthesia care in other critical care areas of the medicalcenter.
Required Qualifications:MD or DO degreeABA Board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care CertificationEligible for unrestricted medical licensure in VirginiaEligible for employment in the United StatesGood communication, clinical and teaching skillsDemonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
