MATHESON is a member of one of the world's largest suppliers of gases and gas handling equipment. We manufacture, market and distribute industrial and high-purity specialty gases, gas delivery systems, welding equipment and supplies. We service a number of industries including semiconductor, electronic, medical, scientific, environmental, and welding markets. We are looking for a Supervisor Indirect Tax to join our tax team. This individual will report to the Indirect Tax Manager.

Position Responsibilities

Complete taxability research and maintain the tax matrix on purchases and sales.Prepare and summarize indirect tax technical research for newly enacted tax laws or pending corporate transactions.Work with internal customer facing departments to insure that proper documentation is secured and maintained for exempt customer sales.Extract and analyze data for use in indirect tax compliance and audit processes. The majority of our indirect tax returns are prepared, filed and paid by a third-party provider.Maintain a comprehensive tax calendar, supporting schedules and workpapers for data used in the compliance process.Analyze non-taxed purchase data monthly using targeted filtering and taxability assumptions and prepare use tax accrual schedules where tax obligations have not been met by payment of tax to the vendor.Perform analysis on tax-paid purchase data to identify potential refund opportunities.Reconcile tax accrual and related bank accounts on a monthly basis to insure tax collection, accrual and payment transactions are properly recorded in the general ledger and are supported by the documentation of our third party tax preparation and payment vendors.Procure and maintain state and local business tax accounts and registrations as required.Resolve any jurisdictional indirect tax issues that are not the responsibility of our third-party tax preparer.Qualifications

Self-starter who has the intellectual curiosity and drive to improve existing processes and implement new processes that may be needed.Have a demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities since we conduct business throughout the United States and support multiple business groups.Advanced written, verbal, analytical and technical communication skills.Must be able to work well with cross-functional teams and effectively communicate tax concepts to non-tax professionals.3+ years of indirect tax experience in a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.Experience with ERP queries and configuring reports to deliver targeted data.Advanced familiarity with Microsoft Excel, specifically, the ability to manipulate large data sets using VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables and other Excel-based analytical tools.Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field of study.Knowledge of Vertex O-Series tax determination and compliance software.Experience using Exemption Certificate Management software.Matheson is an Equal Opportunity Employer that complies with the laws and regulations set forth under EEOC.
