The position requires a high-energy, experienced professional, with strong interpersonal and supervisory skills.ResponsibilitiesStaff augmentation for routine tax accounting activities; including interface with Companies' accounting staff, working independently under direction of client management, and informing management of all major applicable tax compliance issues on a timely basis and providing guidance for implementation.Provide timely tax accounting and guidance for applicable and newly issued tax related FASB and FERC requirements and pronouncements.Coordinate and assist in quarterly planning/status meetings with management.Provide support for routine annual External and Internal Auditor tax information requests.Calculate, prepare and report tax provision and gross-up input for monthly billing schedules and tax related journal entries for monthly closings.Process quarterly estimated tax return calculations and payments for the Corporations and Post Retirement Welfare Benefit Trusts (VEBAs); includes activities of the Spent Fuel Trust (SFT), where applicable, and the Decommissioning Trusts (NDTs).In addition to annual Federal and State income tax returns for the Corporation, VEBA 990 and 990-T, prepare quarterly corporate tax planning documents, work papers, and amended tax returns as applicable.Calculate annual corporate earnings and profit calculations and reporting for equity distributions, tax expense, and liabilities projections.Prepare information for annual external audits including work papers for Corporate Annual Report - tax footnote disclosure and ASC 740 compliance.Prepare, under the direction of the Companies, annual tax work papers for financial regulatory reports, e.g. FERC Form 1.Review earnings and expenses of trust funds to determine and request reimbursement of income taxes from trustees and/or corporate funds, as applicable.Quarterly income tax reconciliations of all general ledger tax accounts.Respond to standard State and IRS inquiries.Provide general tax administration activities, including contract administration.State Sales Tax monitoring and reporting with ongoing review of transactions for compliance with state requirements.Routine FERC rate filing and IRS ruling 468A filing coordination and support, as requested.Cultivate effective relationships with clients and staff.Create a positive impression with clients by exhibiting professional competency and ability.QualificationsBachelors or Masters degree in Accounting requiredMasters in Taxation degree or LLM in Taxation a plusCPA certification required with 7+ years public accounting tax experience.Strong technical skills pertaining to tax preparation and review, tax compliance, agency correspondence, and tax research.Working knowledge of Internal Revenue Code 468A and related regulations - 'Special Rules for Decommissioning Costs'Working knowledge of Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) relative to Post Retirement Welfare Benefit PlansWorking knowledge of state codes for MA, ME, CT, and NCFamiliarity with FERC Regulations and accounting softwareAbility to assist in corporate financial modeling and strategic tax planning and problem-solving thinking both creatively and logically.Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skillsMust have outstanding work ethic, willing to roll up sleeves and work.A demonstrated ability to self-direct and effectively organize, prioritize and manage multiple engagements under tight deadlines.Outstanding leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills fostering client and staff relationshipsThorough understanding of complex tax issuesDecisive ability to identify and execute solutions to problems.Ability to attract and develop profitable, sustainable client relationships.Hybrid work schedule requires being in the office/client location minimally 3 days per week.
