Creswell School District seeks a caring, organized, and knowledgeable McKinney Vento Liaison, to support the families and students of the district. This position is 5 hours per week for the 2024-25 school year.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The McKinney Vento Liason for the Creswell School District ensures that all students who are experiencing barriers in permanent housing can enroll and succeed in school.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXAMPLE OF JOB DUTIES

Identification of unhoused studentsCollaborating and coordination with other services providers (including the district's Family Resource Coordinator, public and private child welfare and social services agencies, law enforcement agencies, juvenile and family courts, mental health agencies, child care providers, etc.)Professional development and technical assistance at both the State and local levels.Removing enrollment barriers, including barriers related to missed application deadlines, fines, fees, missing required documents or records, etc.School stability, including the expansion of school of origin to include preschools and receiving schools and the provision of transportation until the end of the school year.Privacy of student records, including information of youth's living situation.Helping families and youth get their immunizations, immunization records or other medical records.Educating families and youth on transportation services as well as setting up any school transportation needs.Educating parents and guardians on all programs and services within the school available to their child.CSD McKinney-Vento Program:

Our school district is committed to providing equitable opportunities to unhoused students, including educational services as required by Federal law under the McKinney-Vento Act. School records, medical records, proof of residence or other documents will not be required as a condition for admission. The child or unaccompanied youth (a youth that does not live with a parent or guardian) can immediately enroll and participate fully in school activities while education records are being obtained.

The child or unaccompanied youth may attend the school of origin, the last school attended, or the school where the student is currently living. 'School of origin' means the school in which the child or youth was last enrolled or the school the child or youth attended when last permanently housed. The district must presume that keeping the child or youth in the school of origin is in the child's or youth's best interest, except when doing so is contrary to the request of the parent, guardian, or unaccompanied youth.

Students eligible under the McKinney-Vento Act have rights that include:

Receiving services without delays, such as transportation and meal programs.Other appropriate services and programs, including but not limited to programs for:gifted children;children with disabilities;English learners;career and technical education;School activities for parents or guardians and family engagement.Participation in athletics, fine arts, or other extra-curricular activities.

The liaison helps introduce educational programs for unhoused students and make sure they are provided services. This person will also help complete forms or request records we may need, such as previous school, immunization records and/or birth certificates.
