M Health Fairview is looking for a
RN for the Apheresis Donor Center
at the Minneapolis Clinics and Surgery Center.
Typical hours are 7:30am-4:00pm (8 hour shifts).
Weekend rotation as needed.
Rotating

Work is performed at 3 locations - Minneapolis Clinics and Surgery Center and theUniversity of Minnesota Medical Center East Bank and West Bank.The Apheresis Donor Center provides therapeutic apheresis to include plasma exchange, red blood cell exchange, cellular depletions, stem cell/mononuclear cell collections, therapeutic phlebotomies, and extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) treatments. The apheresis nurse performs all adult and pediatric procedures in a safe and competent manner. Good vascular skills, and the ability to work independently are important skills for the apheresis nurse.Responsibilities/Job Description:The RN in the Apheresis Donor Center utilizes the nursing process as the frame of reference for practice and providing direct patient care. The RN has the responsibility of performing all procedures and services provided by the department and following all Fairview and department polices. The RN is responsible for assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned populations.Demonstrates skills/abilities in provision of patient care.Develops and individualizes nursing plan of care by collaborating with patient, family or health care team.Provides care according to the plan, and in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and nursing practice guidelines.Performs health history assessment on patients and donors.Explains procedures to patients and donors to the point of understanding; obtaining informed consent when appropriate.Determines nursing interventions based on identified needs.Communicates with physicians regarding status changes or unusual lab values on patients or donors.Performs venipuncture, access and care for various Venous Access devices.Operates apheresis and collection equipment according to standard operating procedures..Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and expected outcomes.Systematically and continuously evaluates patients response to interventions.Modifies the interventions based on patient response and changing patient condition.Involves the patient, family and other health team members in evaluating care.Uses ongoing assessment data to revise patient needs; priority problems, nursing outcomes and the plan of care.Assists in the day-to-day operations of departmentUnderstands and follows departmental and Fairview policies and procedures.Uses creative solutions to resolve problems and keep operations running smoothly.Understands and follows procedures specifically related to job duties,Demonstrates functional knowledge of emergency plans and responds to emergent situations.Utilizes proper infection prevention techniques.Follow workplace ergonomics.Investigates incidents in a thorough and expeditious manner.Participates in teaching of students, physicians, patients, visitor and new employees.Actively participates in productivity of department:Prioritizes assignments appropriately.Utilizes time effectively, completes assignments in a timely manner.Exercises critical thinking to maintain and improve department productivity and efficiencies.Effectively utilizes all computer systems for reporting, billing or documenting clinical observations.Maintains supplies at the work area.Cleans work area at completion of each assignment.Complies with department standards of attendance and punctuality.Participates in assigned on-call and holiday rotation scheduleRecognizes problems and takes appropriate measures to resolve themDemonstrates understanding of and commitment to Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Compliance programsUses communication strategies to achieve desired outcomesDemonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.Qualifications:Required QualificationsGraduate of a program in nursing who meets qualifications for registered nurse licensure in Minnesotacurrent MN RN license or current permit to practice professional nursing in MNPreferred QualificationsBSN1 to 3 years nursing experience preferred in Apheresis, Dialysis, or ICU experience.Other Required SkillsPro-activenessExcellent communication/interpersonal skills (written/verbal)Excellent independent judgment/critical thinking skillsConsistent documented record of professional developmentAbility to function effectively as part of a teamExcellent customer service skills under all circumstancesExcellent organizational and time management skillsTechnical aptitude-comfortable with machines/technical devices/computers
