Job Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for performing and assessing highly technical and complex clinical laboratory tests on specimens for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in a timely fashion. Assist with Supervisory duties on the Night shifts and performs a wide variety of complex testing in blood bank. Organizes patient transfusion, test results, and inventories of blood products and laboratory supplies to provide optimum service according to Blood bank management policies and protocols. Works independently under general direction to address laboratory needs as the occasion arises.

Monitor workload, workflow, TAT and technical staff performance. Responsible for complying with Bellevue Mission Statement and for the provision of safe and timely transfusion services for all Bellevue patients by carrying out blood banking and transfusion processes according to rules and guidelines established by AABB, CAP NYS Department of Health, FDA, CLIA, Joint Commission, EPA, OSHA and the standards contained in the Blood Bank Quality Assurance plan and self-assessment program. Budget control and Ordering of Reagents and Supplies for the Blood Bank Laboratory. Work under general direction of Clinical Laboratory Level V, Blood Bank Managed and Blood Bank Director.

Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of Duties.

Principal Responsibilities:

I. SUPERVISORY OVERSIGHT - Employee training/Technical

Assistance with staff Supervises the shift technical staff on Night Shift and provides support to the Supervisor V, Administrator, and lab section COQ holder.

Assists in monitoring and compliance of organization's Service Standards by laboratory employees.Ensures that leadership is kept aware of work situations and the performance of each employee on an ongoing basis.Performs scheduling and workflow changes as necessary

IV.

INTERPRETATION, RECORDING, AND VERIFICATION OF RESULTS

Analyzes, interprets, reports, and verifies test results.

Performance Criteria:

Exhibits sound judgment in handling and reporting test results.Makes a determination of normal and abnormal test values accurately.Promptly documents result in the hospital information systems and reports abnormal results via telephone.

Minimum Qualifications1. Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist, cytotechnologist, or histotechnologist issued by the NYSED.For Appointment to Levels IV and V1. In addition to meeting the qualification requirement of Assignment Level II, candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 10, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public Health Law.
