to join our growing and well-established national firm. Due to succession planning, this role has the opportunity to take over as national practice leader within 12-18 months.The Tax Director is responsible for using their consulting and compliance experience and education in the fields of tax qualified retirement programs, executive compensation and welfare plans to assist our clients in providing their employees with employee benefit programs that satisfy their needs while providing the client with tax compliant and cost effective solutions. The Director develops and maintains expertise on specialized areas within this field, including but not limited to Internal Revenue Code Sections 409A and 280G, executive compensation practices in both publicly and privately held companies, ERISA and the design and administration of tax qualified retirement programs.We are committed to practicing work/life balance and offer extremely competitive salary and benefit packages, as well as a hybrid work environment.Essential DutiesAssist in the management and operation of a third-party administration practice for defined contribution plans including plan design, non-discrimination testing and tax compliance. Effectively plan multiple engagements simultaneously, managing operations and revenue, and delegating to and supervising associates.Work with clients in the creation and administration of non-qualified deferred compensation programs including equity-based programs (actual and synthetic), short and long-term cash-based incentive programs.Consult with clients regarding their needs with Affordable Care Act issues, including annual compliance and dealing with IRS notices regarding non-compliance.Conduct compensation studies for clients who seek to understand what market levels of pay are for selected positions.Participate in the preparation of 'golden parachute excise tax' projections for clients who are acquiring/being acquired.Research highly complex tax matters, demonstrating thorough knowledge of the problems, issues and best solutions in the circumstances.Set achievable "new business" as well as "cross-selling" revenue goals for current and subsequent years. Utilizes the Business Development Platform to track opportunities and wins.Initiates risk management strategies and tactics. Identify and communicates areas of exposure to risk, and participates in discussions to mitigate the risk. Ensure quality control procedures are being executed.Manage people and functions through the following skills, but not limited to; coaching, decision making, problem solving, strategy & planning, delegation, leadership and team building.Additional ResponsibilitiesProactively participate in professional development opportunities, i.e. Mentoring Program, Coaching, Continuing Professional Education Courses, etc.Keep current on professional pronouncements (i.e. tax law changes, FASB/ASC, pronouncements, etc.)Contribute to articles or other media to be included in the Firm's newsletters and/or industry publications by assisting with research and writing projects, or other media.Display willingness to participate in Firm marketing and recruiting activities. Help identify and recruit quality candidates.Minimal travel to client sites may be required.Additional responsibilities, not listed above may be expected as needed.QualificationsBA/BS/MS in Accounting or Tax from an accredited college or university.Requires a CPA certification or a J.D.Working knowledge of tax laws.7-10 years of relevant experience preferred, either in a public accounting firm, a law firm or a consulting firm.Strong technology skills with proficiency in Excel, Word & PowerPoint.Working knowledge and experience with CCH Axcess, BNA Online, and Go File Room are a plus.Strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to listen effectively.Excellent judgment and the ability to work independently.Very good training skills and the ability to supervise large engagements.Effective time management, organizational, and analytical abilities.Flexibility and openness to work on a variety of assignments; able to multi-task.Work well under pressure and with a team; able to meet deadlines with accuracy.Strong technical skills pertaining to tax compliance, agency correspondence and tax research.Ability to manage client relationships.Marcum LLP is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
