Quality Engineer (6-Month Contract, On-Site in Rochester, NY)

Daytime work schedule: 6/7AM - 4/5PM Mon-Fr
Pay rate: $34/hr

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Quality Engineer to strengthen our Product Quality Systems and Architecture. This role focuses on driving a fundamental understanding of our processes and implementing continuous improvements that enhance our Quality Management System. The ideal candidate will apply their engineering expertise to effectively manage technical assignments and mitigate risks related to process, product, and equipment changes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply and uphold ISO Quality Standards to ensure product quality and compliance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives in quality, manufacturing, and cost reduction.
  • Optimize sampling plans and methods for quality control and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with plant and Division innovation teams to translate new product needs into meaningful specifications.
  • Support qualification and validation projects in collaboration with the Plant Engineering group.
  • Author and review user documentation, SOPs, and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of product, analytical methods, and processes.
  • Perform internal and external audits to maintain quality standards.
  • Provide training to employees on new procedures and technical topics.
  • Ensure that process changes meet quality, compliance, cost, and productivity goals.
  • Lead or support projects using Performance Excellence (PEx) tools for process and flow improvements, with the aim of reducing costs, optimizing processes, increasing capacity, or reducing complexity.
  • Execute project plans to achieve future state goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial or Mechanical Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, process, or quality role.
  • Previous experience in Quality Engineering within a manufacturing or technical function.
  • Experience with internal and external auditing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience with root cause analysis.
  • Proficiency in developing procedures and work instructions.
  • Project management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards or regulated products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with optics and optical assemblies.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or equivalent certification.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor or equivalent certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership in project management.
  • Proficiency in problem-solving software (e.g., Minitab).
