This is a full-time, regular* (i.e. tenure-track) faculty position in the school of Professional and Continuing Education at The Evergreen State College starting in the 2025-26 academic year. The Evergreen State College seeks a faculty member with advanced training and experience in mental health (clinical/counseling psychology) or social work who is interested in teaching students that are preparing for a variety of behavioral and mental health careers and graduate studies. The successful candidate also will help refine the Professional and Continuing Education school's psychology, health, and wellness curriculum as it expands over the next several academic years. We seek highly collaborative colleagues who are interested in creative, student-centered curriculum planning.The successful candidate for this position will teach psychology at the undergraduate level, including courses in Evergreen's

Behavioral Health Support Specialist (BHSS) Certificate

program associated with a new WA State mental health license. This position will support the state-wide development of the next level of the Adolescent and the Child Behavioral Health Support Specialist Certifications in collaboration with educational and policy makers across Washington State. Faculty will teach 4-credit foundational courses, 4-to-8-credit intermediate and advanced level courses in their specialty areas, and 8-credit, team-taught, broadly interdisciplinary classes. Faculty will incorporate material from a variety of psychology subfields such as behavioral health clinical skills, child and adolescent psychology, health psychology, substance abuse treatment, multicultural counseling, integrative health, and abnormal psychology focusing on evidence-based treatments for depression, anxiety, and substance abuse, in addition to theories of psychopathology. During some quarters, the faculty will supervise community-based mental health internships. Faculty will also have the opportunity to develop future certificates in applied clinical and counseling psychology to meet emergent community needs.We strongly encourage applications from candidates who have had experience teaching and/or working with adult students and students from underserved populations. Curriculum in the school for Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) is based on stackable certificates and related bachelor's degree curriculum comprised of 4-credit and 8-credit offerings, normally planned at a 25:1 student to faculty ratio, and capstone work including undergraduate research or internships and individual study. Faculty appointed to the school for PaCE will teach a mixture of those types of offerings, with a planned full-time workload equivalent to 25 full-time (16-credit) student FTE (for example: two 8-credit classes with 25 students each or other such combinations). Courses and programs are offered online, in-person, or in low residency hybrid formats with both remote and in-person elements. Most synchronous instruction would be taught in the evenings or weekends, with some flexibility to offer instruction in the day if there is demonstrated demand or if teaching during daylight hours is an important part of the pedagogy (such as for field work). In the first year of the contract, faculty will have the opportunity for partial release from teaching to help with the design and development of new certificates and curriculum in the school for Professional and Continuing education. Faculty will be provided with opportunities to increase their skill in online curriculum development.Evergreen uses narrative evaluations in lieu of grades and faculty are responsible for evaluating 25 students/quarter in each class. Faculty are also responsible for advising students as they reflect on their learning process, develop a pathway of study, and formulate their own areas of concentration.Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping students develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome, and all can learn from each other.Minimum Qualifications:Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA (American Psychological Association) Accredited ProgramORPh.D. or DSW in Social Work from an accredited universityDemonstrated experience teaching in a classroom or professional environmentExperience providing behavioral health services in clinical/counseling settingsDemonstrated ability to teach child and adolescent developmental psychology to train future BSHS providers in supervised clinical/counseling work with these populations in schools and other settingsPreferred Qualifications:Demonstrated ability to teach quantitative and/or qualitative methods and/or community-based research methodsExperience teaching in online and hybrid educational formatsProfessional experience providing mental health services to diverse and underserved populationsLicensed Mental Health PractitionerExpertise in the role and application of evidence-based applied psychology for anxiety and depression and behavioral health in child/adolescent settings, schools or other settings, in addition to other clinical/counseling experienceExcellent communication, planning and collaborative work skills to be able to work with multiple educational institutions and Washington State Department of HealthConditions of Employment:
