FLSA Status ADAApplicabilityFMLAEligibilityReports to OSHAPlanning &DevelopmentDirectorAdministration Exempt Applicable Eligible CityAdministratorN/AUnder the direction of the City Administrator, the Planning & Development Director is an exempt position under FLSA.Ensuring development within the city limits occurs legally and logically is the primary responsibility of this position. Providingcitizen assistance and gathering information for the City Council is expected. This position supervises the citys planning anddevelopment function as well as building inspection.Administer government plans or policies affecting land use, and plan, direct, coordinate, and review the same for current,long-range, and special planning projectsDraft regulations pertaining to land use and developmentGather and analyze data from market research, census and economic and environmental studiesConduct field investigations to analyze factors affecting community development/decline, including land useAssess the feasibility of development proposals and site plans and identify for approval or denialStay current on zoning and building codes, environmental regulations, and other legal issuesAssisting in the management of the citys current infrastructure and urban resourcesOversees the recruitment, employment, evaluation and release of staff with approval from the City CouncilIssues written notices of violations and conducts follow-up inspections for complianceMaintains complete and accurate files of code violations in a computer systemParticipates in all code-related legal proceedings, including prosecution of code violations or providing testimonyStays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of zoning and code enforcementStaffs and prepares reports for a variety of boards, commissions and committees, including the Planning Commission,Board of Zoning Appeals, and City CouncilPrepares reports for applications by homeowners and businesses regarding planning and zoning, and zoning appeals,performing inspections of both public and private property to enforce the citys zoning and sign regulationsCoordinate and prepare staff reports for proposed projectsHelp staff identify and resolve zoning-related problems, investigate zoning issues, and manage code violationsAttend City Council, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals meetingsPrepares and oversees budget, code department invoices and statements for line-item budget accountingMonthly and annual reports of master plan progress and goal setting for out year planning and budget considerationsOther duties and responsibilities as assignedA bachelors degree in planning or a related field.
