Job SummaryThe accountant II position will be responsible for assisting pre and post-award management of assigned faculty by relaying funding opportunities sent by Sponsored Programs administrations and other sources. Additionally, this position researches and interprets relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards, and oversees the processing of contracts and/or grants, including working with Principal Investigators to manage pre- and post-award processes. This position requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral, strong collaboration and teamwork skills, and a basic knowledge of grant proposals, budgets, and Federal and State sponsor guidelines within a university setting.Experience and EducationMinimum RequirementsBachelor's degree with two (2) years of professional experience in governmental and/or commercial accounting or auditing. ORAssociate's degree and four (4) years of professional experience in governmental and/or commercial accounting or auditing. ORHigh school diploma and six (6) years of experience in governmental and/or commercial accounting or auditing.Job DutiesVerifies postings in ledgers and journals for accuracy and compliance with prescribed accounting procedures.Verifies accuracy of accounting ledgers and resolves discrepancies.Compiles data and prepares spreadsheets related to various financial activities.Furnishes data for general ledger accounts for correctness of income and/or expenses and for maintenance of adequate balances; reconciles monthly and annual salary reports.Assists in the development and implementation of new or revised accounting and operational procedures.May compile and prepare monthly, quarterly and/or annual reports as required.May prepare and/or approve various online expenditures, journal vouchers, etc.May provide working supervision to Accounting Clerk and/or Accountant I positions.Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesWork requires the ability to exercise considerable judgment in the interpretation of policy and application of accounting procedures and practices to work problems. Work requires knowledge of spreadsheets and word-processing software. Work requires the ability to apply mathematical reasoning to analyze data and identify discrepancies in financial accounts. Work requires skill in using ten key by touch.Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily in a general office area.This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
