As a member of our Division of Nursing's (DON) leadership/management team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of patient care in this specialized field.Position OverviewIn collaboration with the Nursing Director, the Assistant Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the Acute Medicine Oncology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The Assistant Nursing Director fosters associates' commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care outcomes. This role offers the chance to direct and coordinate the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel. Unit 5E (Medical Oncology)

care for many medical oncology diagnoses while upholding the Commission on Cancer Standards. We welcome patients from a variety of medical and surgical specialties. This 21-bed unit is a great place to become an expert generalist, Certified Chemo nurse, and an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) as well as a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN). The staff and nurses on 5E are highly skilled, motivated, and committed to excellence.We strive to provide safe, quality care by maintaining a patient-centered approach and leveraging multi-disciplinary collaboration. The cytoreductive surgery was developed at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The 5E Nurses also provide nationally certified care to our bariatric surgical patient population.Come join our team where we pride ourselves on teamwork, fun, and professional development!Key ResponsibilitiesIn collaboration with the Nurse Director, develops department goals, objectives, and ensures compliance with hospital policy and procedure, clinical practice guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.Provides shift-based clinical leadership through role modeling professional practice behaviors, proper delegation of activities, and management of the nursing team, and promotes unit activities that enhance department satisfaction and engagement.Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient care.Participates in patient rounding to review patient status and connect with patient and family.Collaborates with the Nursing Director in the hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of personnel within the department as needed and initiates coaching and counseling of associates.Maintains clinical knowledge and skills and engages in the provision of direct care for a caseload of patients as required.Assumes administrative responsibilities in absence of the director and as needed provides coverage for other colleagues.Why Join UsWork with a highly skilled, motivated, and committed team of professionals dedicated to excellence.
