The Assistant Nursing Director role is a great position that allows you to remain close to the bedside but serves as a front-line nurse leader. MedStar Health is seeking a dedicated and engaged Assistant Nursing Director to help lead the Medical Cardiac ICU team. As a member of our Division of Nursing's (DON) leadership/management team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of patient care in this specialized field.

Position OverviewIn collaboration with the Nursing Director, the Assistant Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the Burn/Trauma ICU at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The Assistant Nursing Director fosters associates' commitment to improving quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care outcomes. This role offers the chance to direct and coordinate the nursing and patient care delivery of the unit-based professional and support personnel. As a nursing leader, you will promote an environment that aligns with the Division of Nursing and MedStar Health's mission, vision, and values.

Unit Highlights2NE cares for acutely ill medical cardiology and cardiovascular surgery patients and their families. Patients on this unit have sick hearts, and we are here to fix them! Heart failure, heart attacks, post-operative vascular and cardiac surgery patients, and cardiogenic shock are our primary diagnoses. Our patients are sick and need expert nurses to care for them. Our medical model uses collaboration between cardiology fellows, residents, and interns to provide exceptional and empathetic care.

Key Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Nurse Director, develops department goals, objectives, and ensures compliance with hospital policy and procedure, clinical practice guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards.Provides shift-based clinical leadership through role modeling professional practice behaviors, proper delegation of activities, and management of the nursing team.Collaborates with the nursing leadership team, Medical Staff, and leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient care.Participates in patient rounding to review patient status and connect with patient and family.Collaborates with the Nursing Director in the hiring, evaluation, promotion, and termination of personnel within the department as needed.Maintains clinical knowledge and skills and engages in the provision of direct care for a caseload of patients as required.Assumes administrative responsibilities in absence of the director and as needed provides coverage for other colleagues.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in nursing (Master's preferred)DC RN LicenseApproximately three to four years of progressively more responsible job-related experienceStrong interpersonal and communication skills

Minimum QualificationsEducation

Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program requiredMaster's degree in Nursing or a health-related field from a nationally accredited program preferred

Experience

3-4 years progressive nursing care experience requiredLeadership and management experience preferred

Licenses and Certifications

RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia requiredSpecialty certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization in either a clinical specialty or Nursing Administration preferredCPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days requiredAdditional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment on complex situations.Verbal and written communication skills.Basic knowledge of various computer software applications and online learning applications, especially Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.

This position has a hiring range of $100,588 - $180,419.
