Job Summary

This role will be responsible for assisting with and supervising all aspects of Human Resources, to include labor relations, recruitment, benefits, training and development, employee relations, community relations, health and safety, as well as liability prevention and legal compliance.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Interview, screen and refer management, supervisory, and hourly applicants.

Create and send employment offer letters.

Complete background and reference checks for new hires.

Prepare hire packets for all new employees.

Complete e-verify for new hires.

Ensure on-boarding of new hoteliers is implemented according to Nikko standards.

Monitor FMLA eligibility and administer as granted.

Approve/deny of government leaves.

Administer benefit deductions.

Commuter check distribution and reorder.

Assist the HRD and AHRD Conduct investigations.

Monthly reporting - PTO/Sick, Manning schedule and other reports as requested.

Ensure proper completion of all employee related forms including but not limited to Personnel Action Forms, 90 Day Performance Evaluation Forms, Leave of Absence Forms, Employee Requisition Forms and PTO Request Forms.

Ensure all required information, including but not limited to names, address, phone number, I-9 and application, is contained in appropriate files.

Assist employees in making reservations with Hotel Nikko San Francisco or Reciprocity hotels.

Organize employee programs including but not limited to Hotelier of the Quarter Program, Manager of the Quarter Program, Focus Groups and Monthly Birthday/Safety Celebration.

Organize and execute Annual Holiday Party.

Create monthly event calendar, employee cafeteria calendar, and other month end tasks.

Compose and distribute inter-office memorandums/flyers related to the Human Resources Department.

Handle all employment verifications in a timely fashion and in accordance with hotel policy.

Actively maintain and update all employee related files.

Schedule/coordinate all Philanthropic programs.

Counsel employees on job performance, transfers and career opportunities.

Perform all clerical duties including but not limited to non-routine faxing/mail distribution, filing, and employee verifications.

Make new and replacement employee identification/time cards and name tags.

Sort and distribute all incoming materials including but not limited to regular mail, express mail and packages.

Order and maintain supplies necessary for the HR office.

Attend Career Fairs.

Interact in a courteous and professional manner with all guests, staff and community members.

Interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, particularly interaction with supervisor, subordinates, co-workers and guests in completing assignments, resolving staff and guest complaints.

Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.

Assist with special projects as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Four year college degree preferably in Human Resource Management.

Must have at least 3 years of experience in Human Resources.

Minimum of 1 year experience in a Human Resources leadership role.

Must have significant employee relations experience at a decision-making level, including experience conducting investigations, managing coaching and counseling process and handling employee grievances.

Must have a well-rounded Human Resources background with solid experience in employee relations, benefits, training, safety, liability avoidance and compliance.

Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, ability to coach, counsel, advise, mentor and motivate hoteliers and leaders at all levels.

Hotel experience strongly preferred.

Experience in a unionized hotel preferred and a strong asset.

Experience conducting and implementing training and development programs.

Operations management experience preferred.

Thorough knowledge of recruitment, selection and placement procedures.

Thorough knowledge of labor laws and EEO.

Ability to provide guidance to managers and hourly employees while keeping within Human Resources policies and company philosophy.

Ability to be resourceful, creative and maintain flexibility.

Ability to train, motivate, evaluate, mentor and direct employees and managers to meet desired ends.

Ability to maintain excellent relations with staff.

Ability to maintain staff and guest confidentiality at all times.

Ability to accept responsibility for actions of others.

Ability to converse calmly with irate guests, superiors and subordinates in sometimes-intense emotional situations.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000
