CSS has an opening for someone with experience in developing microgravity science payloads to help deliver solutions to our government and commercial customers.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Microgravity Payloads Engineer to join our team. This role involves leadership of the technical development of microgravity science payloads for the International Space Station (ISS) and other microgravity platforms.

Position Overview

As a Senior Microgravity Payloads Engineer, you will collaborate with a team led by a project manager and including scientists, engineers, technicians, and specialists to collectively oversee the technical design, build, launch, and operations of science payloads and technology development hardware destined for various microgravity, lunar, and beyond platforms. As a technical expert, you will contribute to the coordination and communication among our customers, external partners, and other stakeholders throughout the life of a project. This position can be performed remotely with up to 20% travel required to launch and recovery sites, customer, and partner facilities. Irregular hours will be necessary, particularly during launch and on-orbit operations.

Responsibilities:

Lead the technical aspects of design, development, launch, and operations of microgravity payloads.Work closely with program and project managers, customers, and partners to ensure successful mission integration and operations.Play a leadership role in technical reviews, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and safety requirements.Provide support for on-orbit payload operations and crew training.Ensure designs satisfy requirements and demonstrate performance in a thorough verification and validation program.Lead safety design, testing, and requirements integration.Perform trade studies for technology development to develop solutions.Contribute to building a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and managers for future projects.Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering relevant to microgravity sciences payloads.At least five (5) years of experience in ISS payload processing, flight hardware mission integration, and operations for scientific experimentation in space. Relevant education/experience may be substituted for a portion of the experience.Proficiency in basic laboratory principles and techniques.Experience with space launch vehicle and microgravity platform interfaces.Ability to supervise and/or conduct technical analysis of structural, thermal, software, and electrical components.Strong dependability and punctuality in both remote and on-site environments.Ability to prioritize multiple projects accurately and meet deadlines.Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently.Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and customer interface skills.

Desired Qualifications:

Master's degree in engineering relevant to microgravity sciences payloads.Experience with biological and chemical processes.Experience in human spaceflight programs.Familiarity with NASA OZ Requirements Baseline and Integration Tools and NASA Safety HAZARD program.Experience with on-orbit payload operations.Experience in crew training and documentation.Experience with NASA Systems Engineering framework and leading technical design reviews according to NASA NPR 7120-series standards.
