Senior Payload Engineer

Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or design engineering, or related field, from accredited college or university. Five (5) years of relevant experience supporting ISS payload processing and flight hardware mission integration and operations. Relevant education/experience may be substituted for a portion of the experience.
Basic Qualifications:Experience working with hardware and payloads designed for supporting scientific experimentation and operation in space.Experience working on biological and chemical processes.Experience in basic laboratory principles and techniques.Experience with space launch vehicle interfaces.Experience with or ability to understand and/or conduct technical analysis products with structural, thermal, and electrical mechanics.Experience in software development is preferable.Must be dependable and punctual whether working in a remote environment or on-site.Upon receiving and communicating understanding of direction from supervisor, possess ability to prioritize multiple projects without sacrificing accuracy or missing deadlines.Self-motivated, demonstrate initiative and work independently.Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and customer interface skills.Experience processing Class D/1E payloads.Additional attributes:Experience working in human spaceflight programs.Prior experience with NASA OZ Requirements Baseline and Integration Tools and NASA Safety HAZARD program.Experience working on-orbit payload operations.Experience in crew training and documentation.Experience working with the NASA Systems Engineering framework, including running technical design reviews.Work Environment:Will be generally remote from home office location. When on-site, required to work inside and outside, throughout laboratories, test environments, etc. Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards. Wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), when necessary. Requires occasional overtime, including weekend and holiday work, depending on tasks. Requires travel (>20%).Equipment and Machines:Computers and printers used for producing reports, drawings, and schedules. Variety of equipment used in testing.Attendance:Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday. Shift work may be required during on-orbit ops.Duties and Responsibilities:
This position requires working within a team environment consisting of various management, engineering, and science personnel. Primary duties and responsibilities are to provide engineering skills and leadership in the development, testing, sustaining engineering, operations, and processing of various payloads and hardware. This includes but is not limited to:Maintain and develop documentation and templates for data collection, procedures, and requirement verification.Develop schedules for technical tasks including validation and verification.Development/maintenance of drawings, data entry, procedures development/maintenance, hardware/payload assembly and testing, and participation in reviews and edits.Responsible for oversight of the manifesting of Class D and Class1E payloads and their related science investigations. Responsible for building and maintaining project schedules.Responsible for participating in multiple projects effectively.Responsible for leading the identification and verification requirements and overseeing science integration of the payloads. Responsible for de-conflicting resources where necessary to assure proper planning among projects.Responsible for participating in team meetings and interfacing with multiple NASA customers. Responsible for the development of reports, pre-task briefings and presentations to the customer.Responsible for building and submitting Flight Safety Data Packages, ISS Hazard System Reports, and Certifying Flight Readiness for each Class D/1E payload.Analyze data and support troubleshooting of anomalies.Perform other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements:
Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting. Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment. Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures. Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency.CSS is predominantly a Federal Contractor and is subject to following the terms of Executive Orders.
