Description

Verily’s Workbench software provides a secure collaborative environment for data generators, research, and biopharma organizations to govern and analyze their data. The platform is part of Verily Viewpoint, an end-to-end suite of solutions that power the evidence generation needed to make safe, effective therapies available faster to those who need them.

Workbench incorporates technology and best practices developed through years of building data infrastructure for large research initiatives such as the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Program, the Accelerating Medicines Partnership Parkinson’s disease (AMP PD) program, and the Project Baseline Health Study.

We seek a seasoned backend/DevOps engineer to join Verily’s Workbench team, contributing a blend of new product features and new infra to support scalability and operational excellence of existing Workbench services. The Workbench team is currently executing on an ambitious roadmap to deliver new data management and data analysis features to support an exciting set of new and existing customers.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the definition of the Workbench platform architecture and supporting infrastructure.Lead design for major components and systems, balancing features and critical non-functional characteristics such as scalability, performance, maintainability, availability, deployability, etc.Develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve the Workbench system.Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.Model and influence adoption of Software Engineering and DevOps best practices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.5+ years as a software engineer in an industry setting.Excellent written communication, especially in design documents.Experience with, or willingness to learn, modern DevOps toolkits (Terraform, k8s, Helm).Expertise building software and systems on GCP and/or AWS (including cloud-native systems related to resource management, spend tracking, IAM, VPCs, region controls, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in the Java and/or Go ecosystems.Experience managing cloud- and network-level backend infrastructure (e.g. DNS, TLS, OAuth flows).Past participation in open-source projects and/or cross-organizational partnerships.Experience with (or passion for) providing tools to scientists on the forefront of computational biology & genomics research.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $148,000 - $210,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
