February 20, 2024Responsibilities:Protects university employees, students, and the general public; patrols and safeguards university property; maintains law and order; and performs other related duties as required.Patrols campus buildings and grounds.Protects individuals and/or controls crowds during assemblies or disturbances.Guards property against fire, theft, vandalism and illegal entry.Answers calls and complaints, taking the necessary police action.Takes proper police action at scene of crime (for example, administers first aid, gathers evidence, locates witnesses and makes arrests).Gathers, analyzes, investigates and prepares written reports on accidents, property damage, fires, law violations, thefts and disturbances of the peace.May direct and control parking regulations and issue traffic citations.Completes training and development and other duties as assigned.Works with City of Berkeley police force as required.Required Qualifications:Thorough knowledge in the following areas: First Aid/CPR, campus streets, buildings, and parking lots, general law enforcement procedures, vehicle laws, use of firearms.Able to observe situations analytically, impartially, and objectively, and to record pertinent information accurately and completely.Comfortable carrying a firearm.Must be a US citizen or be legally authorized to work in the United States.Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with a diverse community.Excellent ability to use computer devices and programs and other modern law enforcement technologies and tools.Thorough understanding of modern policing issues, philosophies, practices and trends applied within the University environment.Meet all other requirements for peace officers as established by law and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.Education/Training:High school diploma or equivalent certification/experience/training.Enrollment in and/or completion of basic P.O.S.T. certification.Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or higher and/or equivalent experience/training.Salary & Benefits:For information on the comprehensive benefits package offered by the University, please visit the University of California's Compensation & Benefits website.
