In this vital role you will be a part of the Therapeutic Discovery organization joining the Lead Discovery and Characterization Department in support of Amgen’s small molecule drug discovery pipeline.The development and optimization of novel cell-based assays ensure successful implementation and routine execution of these assays to support HTS, lead optimization, and mechanism-of-action studies for promising therapeutic targetsDesign and implement laboratory experiments, generate & interpret data supporting the successful development of new assays and test the biological effects of therapeutic agentsDesign, implement, and optimize gene-editing workflows in a manner that enables development and evaluation of cell-based functional assays supporting therapeutic target screening or lead optimization studiesLearn, apply, and incorporate automation solutions during assay development, assay troubleshooting, mechanism-of-action studies, data analysis, and reportingInvestigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods/techniques to generate reliable and reproducible data promptlySemi-independently plan and implement experiments, adapt readily to changing project needs and develop sophisticated problem-identification and problem resolution skillsMaintain proficiency with the latest scientific literature and rationale surrounding drug targets and be an active contributor to the interpretation of results in group discussionsShow excellent collaboration and communication skills as this role requires an ability to work closely with other scientists in the group and across AmgenAdherence to good laboratory conduct, documentation practices, and safety guidelinesWinWhat we expect of youWe are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The dynamic professional we seek is a scientist with these qualifications.Basic Qualifications:Master's degree and 2 years relevant experienceOrBachelor's degree and 4 years of relevant experiencePreferred Qualifications:Ph.D. degree with 1+ years of post-doctoral training or a master’s degree with 5+ years postgraduate experience in cell and/or molecular biology or closely related fieldExperience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a biopharmaceutical settingStrong scientific foundation in the understanding and implementation of a wide range of cell-based assays (e.g., TR-FRET, BRET, AlphaLISA, HCS, luminescence and fluorescence-based reporter and/or label-free assays) with experience in the utilization of lab automation across assay development and screeningTrack record of developing, implementing, and performing novel cell-based screening assays in microtiter plates to support early drug discovery researchAbility to design and implement gene editing (CRISPR knock out/in) workflows enabling the development of targets specific and disease-relevant cell-based assaysCapacity to identify, evaluate, implement, and become proficient in novel laboratory techniquesAbility to create and establish priorities, manage work plans, and meet timelinesA flexible approach with strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated initiative, teamwork, collaboration, and passion for developing technical expertise across assay development to routine executionFamiliarity with software and statistical platforms for the analysis of large data sets (e.g., Screener, Spotfire)What you can expect of usAs we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for our teammates’ professional and personal growth and well-being.The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted.
