Boys & Girls Club Area Director I

Location: Gastonia, NC 1506 UNION ST 28054Job Summary:Under general supervision, the Director of Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs provides leadership, direction, and support to the advisory board/council in developing organizational goals, managing resources, and establishing local Club operational policies. In partnership with the Area Commander/Corps Officer, builds and grows Club capacity to have the greatest mission impact on youth; implements program services which advance the mission of The Salvation Army.Essential Functions:This job description should not be interpreted as all-inclusive. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated.Supervisory Oversight Responsibilities (40%):Provides leadership to Branch managers through the establishment of goals, objectives, and procedures; develops administrative and operational standards.Recruits, oversees, and provides career development opportunities for branch staff and volunteers.Instructs and trains employees in proper methods and procedures; monitors work for compliance with established policies.Assures attainment of resources necessary for funding Club programs.Writes specific measurable goals and objectives based on internal and external data.Ensures compliance with membership and other requirements of Boys and Girls Clubs of America.Provides professional leadership to Commanding Officers to assure development of an effective Advisory Council.Implements strategic planning processes resulting in development and implementation of quality strategic plans.Manages Club financial resources, assisting in the development of annual budgets.Ensures operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the Club.Directs and participates in public relations and fundraising activities.Promotes Boys and Girls Club services to the community.Ensures a healthy and safe environment.Works collaboratively with Area Commanders and Branch Managers.BGC Program Management Responsibilities (30%):Monitors and approves the organization’s program services and assures achievement of its mission and goals.Establishes programs and activities that prepare youth for success.Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates Branch programs and services.Collects statistical information for grants and prepares reports in a timely manner.Responsible for the accuracy of the weekly data for each Club site.Other Responsibilities:May be assigned special projects by the Area Commander/Corps Officer.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of recreation program development, facility management, volunteer recruitment, and community relations. Ability to supervise and lead staff, develop promotional activities, and resolve conflicts.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Education and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, or social services and five (5) years’ experience in management of a Boys & Girls Club, or seven (7) years’ experience in a similar youth-service organization.Certifications:Valid Driver's License, Basic First Aid and CPR Certification (or ability to obtain), Tier 2 BGCA Trainer Certification (or ability to obtain).Physical Requirements:Ability to meet attendance requirements, communicate effectively, and perform duties in accordance with organizational principles.Working Conditions:Work is performed in various environments with possible discomforts associated with weather and noise.Statement of Purpose:This document provides descriptive information about the Salvation Army position.
