The
Director of Major Gifts
is responsible for the strategic direction and management of key donors and fundraising initiatives essential to developing, expanding, and stewarding major philanthropic support. The role involves frequent contact with major donors and prospects, as well as interaction with board members, volunteers, and key stakeholders of UMC and UMC Foundation. The focus will be on securing major gifts defined as $10,000 and up. The
Director of Major Gifts
will report to the VP, Foundation.
Requirements for a Director of Major Gifts:
Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, fundraising, business, marketing, or related field.
Master's degree preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a focus on major gifts and individual giving.
Proven track record of successfully securing major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations with demonstrated experience in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Proficiency in donor management software and other electronic platforms utilized by the organization.
Experience with Microsoft environment.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling solicitation materials and present effectively to diverse audiences.
CRM database experience preferred.
CFRE certification preferred.
Responsibilities for a Director of Major Gifts:
Creates and implements an innovative annual strategic fundraising plan. Periodically adjusts and revises plan as appropriate to ensure the team exceeds all revenue goals.
Builds and maintains a portfolio of major gift prospects, defined as $10,000-plus gifts.
Establishes and cultivates relationships with existing donors through gift acknowledgments, events, and other stewardship practices.
Creates and submits customized funding proposals for funds in support of UMC priorities to current and prospective funders, cultivating and soliciting major and endowment gifts from individuals and family/corporate foundations.
Utilizes resources and coordinates with our Communications team to produce fundraising materials, donor recognition and stewardship materials.
Utilizes internal and external constituent management database to manage all fundraising activities. Keeps track of financials and moves management.
Stays informed regarding best practices in philanthropy and fundraising and proactively seeks opportunities for personal professional development and organizational growth.
