seeks a highly motivated

Electrical Plans Examiner . Our ideal candidate is adaptable, a quick learner, and would be a strong contributor within a fast-paced, high-performing environment. This is an opportunity to join a very exciting part of our department – driving electrical project review that will directly impact construction projects.

Your responsibilities will include:Independently reviewing plans and specifications for proposed electrical work to ensure conformance with electrical and safety codes relevant to each proposed plan and interprets applicable codes.Review of critical and complex electrical project plans for commercial, complex industrial, hospitals, and high power distribution systems.Conducting field investigations as assigned; prepares and records results of all plan reviews or correspondence; issues permits and stop work orders; and performs related duties as assigned.Independently conducting electrical inspections on the normal range of new or remodeled electrical installations to verify conformance with national, state, and City of Seattle electrical codes and related ordinances; evaluate compliance with minimum standards for electrical materials and construction standards; and document records of inspection results in the Department data management systems.Providing leadership and direction in conveying accurate information and direction to customers to assure public safety in the use of potentially hazardous electrical installations.Personal contacts include electrical engineers, architects, mechanical engineers, contractors, property owners, and the general public to provide information and interpretation of complex electrical code regulations.

Minimum Requirements:Requires two years of college-level training in mathematics, physics, and electrical engineering subjects plus two years of experience as an electrician or electrical inspector or one year experience as an electrical plans examiner with a public code enforcement agency (or an equivalent combination of education and/or training and/or experience).

Successful candidates will possess the following skills, abilities, and experience:Journey level electrician experience.Comprehensive knowledge of national, state, city codes, ordinances, industry standards, departmental policies, procedures, and precedents.A thorough knowledge of industrial, commercial, and residential electrical and safety codes for buildings.Skill in the accurate and appropriate calculation of fault currents, basic building loads, and related electrical plan evaluation techniques.Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, methods, and practices as they relate to equipment testing procedures and electrical wiring and equipment system designs for buildings.Proficient in using word processing and database software.Bluebeam construction software experience.

The full salary range for this position is $53.49/hour - $62.25/hour.

A working test will be scheduled as a part of the screening and selection process.
