The Executive Director of Sales and Curation is responsible for managing exhibitions, overseeing sales staff and maintaining relationships with gallery artists.Must have previous gallery management experience.Responsibilities include:Provide vision and leadership on implementing initiatives and a go-to-market strategy to expand revenue streams with the goal of exceeding sales targetsMentor and provide inspiring training for staff in all aspects of art sales and art educationEvaluate and implement a strategy for staying in touch with clients.Identify new artists whose work aligns with our curatorial vision.Act as the galleries artist liaison and maintain positive relationships with all our artists.Establish the exhibition calendar.Oversee management of the collection including inventory and conservation.Liaison with the top auction houses in both buying and selling capacity.Requirements:Proven ability to organize exhibitions, and liaise with artists, writers and designersDemonstrated sales leadership and successful gallery managementExperience with CRM systemsExperience with web-based art platformsExperienced in dealing with valuable art and high net-worth clientsMust be highly organized, self-motivated, an excellent mentorStrong network of established contacts within the region and national art scene a plusKnowledge of best practices in fine art gallery managementExtensive knowledge of the contemporary art marketPreferred Qualifications and Attributes:Genuinely, enthusiastic about contemporary art, with a proven sales recordKnowledge of fine art gallery best practicesAttention to detailPreviously published art writing, catalog essays or arts education text is a plusPrivate or corporate art advisory experience is a plusKnowledge of frame shop business and framing practicesPrior experience and knowledge of the artists in the gallery’s stable is a plusEducation:MFA in Art, MA in Art History, Arts Management, or Arts Administration strongly preferred, or a BA in art or related subject, plus extensive art world sales experienceSalary and working hours:The salary for this position is dependent on experience. This is a full time, salaried, exempt position. The Executive Director of Sales and Curation will report to the CEO and must be available to work nights, weekends and be on call.
