POSITION SUMMARYStaff Counsel will help the Chicago Housing Authority ("CHA") achieve its mission and goals, primarily by protecting its legal interests. Staff counsel will represent CHA in legal matters related to various types of law, such as evictions, Housing Choice Voucher Program ("HCV") administrative hearings and administrative reviews in circuit court, grievance proceedings, and the investigation of eviction matters, and other related litigation in circuit court as needed. Staff Counsel also will provide counseling to various CHA client departments.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESRepresenting the CHA in all phases of eviction matters and administrative hearings in CHA HCV Program hearings and administrative reviews in circuit court, and in other forums as needed.Researching and writing legal memoranda and motions as they relate to evictions and HCV hearings to be filed in circuit court.Propounding and responding to written and oral discovery.Investigating, gathering evidence, and preparing and presenting witnesses to testify at administrative hearings or eviction trials.QUALIFICATIONSThis position requires a Juris Doctorate degree, admission to the Illinois bar and good standing, and a minimum of 1 year of litigation experience. Ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, strong analytical and research skills, strong time management skills, and general knowledge of legal/trial practices and procedures in various courts. Further requirements consist of the following: integrity, sound judgment, strong work ethic, ability to work cooperatively with supervisors/colleagues/diverse client departments, and willingness to learn new substantive areas.
