The assigned workstation is in the Seattle Pioneer Square/Stadium district. This is a telework position; however, staff must be able to travel to and work from the office as required. The salary listed does not include an additional 5% premium granted to King County employees.Our Central Intake Office located in Seattle is searching for a Social Service Specialist 3 (SSS3) to join our dynamic team. If you thrive with critical thinking and shared decision-making, we encourage you to apply!The Opportunity:This position is responsible for performing assessments and responding to telephone and written reports of abuse, neglect, and other child welfare service requests. In this role, you will gather information and perform risk and safety assessments to screen cases and refer families to appropriate services. Within DCYF Field Operations, the Central Intake unit operates 24/7 and provides services to Region 4 during weekday/non-holiday hours and statewide at all other times. This position provides intake services for multiple programs such as Child Protective Services (CPS), Child and Family Welfare Services (CFWS), Family Reconciliation Services (FRS), and Family Voluntary Services (FVS). You will also work with the Licensing Division (LD) regarding complaints/infractions, provide crisis call management to assist callers for the End-Harm Line, and process ICPC/ICAMA requests.Some of what you will get to do:Respond to phone and written inquiries from community members and professionals reporting cases of suspected abuse and neglect.Collect information, assess risk and safety for children, the risk to caseworkers, and make screening decisions on reports.Enter correct and timely intake information and case data, extract and compare data from other sources such as CSO records, collateral contacts, and prior history.Prioritize incoming calls during peak season and manage higher workloads by working on multiple cases simultaneously.Refer cases to law enforcement where criminal acts may have been committed.Conduct interviews with families and collateral sources.Use basic knowledge of social services program components to assist in assessing and understanding risk factors and family dynamics.Required Qualifications:Six (6) years of paid social service experience* AND 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline.ORA Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or Master’s degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline AND One (1) year of paid social service experience* in planning, administering, developing, or delivery of public child welfare, social, health, or chemical dependency treatment programs.ORA Bachelor’s degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or Bachelor’s degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline AND Two (2) years of paid social service experience* in planning, administering, developing, or delivery of public child welfare, social, health, or chemical dependency treatment programs.OROne year as a Social Service Specialist 2.*Paid social service experience must include at least one (1) year assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family-centered practice services.Degrees must be obtained from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent verified by a NACES-approved organization at naces.org. For Degrees obtained outside the U.S.: Foreign Equivalency certification must be attached to the application.
